Anti-Scientologists are paranoid babbling NUTS.
by biglizard

This seemed like it would be an interesting subject to debate on the internet. NOT HERE

Boy there is no one here but anti-Scientologists, and the ones here are complete paranoid nuts! If any sane person knows of somewhere, now that I’m interested, I could go to talk to someone SANELY about the pro’s and con’s of Scientology please let me know.

P.S. All you crazies don’t bother to post your time would be better spent with psychiatrist.

you can just go ahead and lay out the pro's and cons
by happyatheist

And see who bites. Someone interested may show up.

Good luck!

Could be but after the discussions I’ve been in here I’m not holding my breath.

why are the few defenders calling us "paranoid"? i just dont see a paranoia. Citing reams of facts showing how the thing is a big scam isnt paranoid. Doesn't even have the flavor of paranoia. Paranoia would be saying "it's coming to get me!!!"

Anyhoo, please, defenders: say something, ANYTHING, that actuallly defends scientology! All I see are assaults on how the we critics are close-minded! Closeminded to what? We haven't heard you say anything positive yet!

Thank you for showing EXACTLY what I meant in this posting. I AM NOT A DEFENDER! I have not defended ANYTHING. I am interested. Yet if I don’t have some stupid horror story or haven’t at least heard one I am a defender… To you everyone is a defender. (Except someone who has some stupid horror story from 1972 or older)

I want an actual discussion of the pros and cons from someone who knows them. (I don’t know them that’s the whole point!)

As an Atheist and therefore theologically neutral in your faith based discourse, I have a question. Aren't there just as many sams and scandals in the older more accepted faiths? Tithing 10 % of your income to pay an adult to ream your child seems about as bad as it can get. Is scientology figurative screwing of people less offensive than Christianity's recent history of literally screwing children? Scientology with Xenu is no mare farsical than Moses talking to aThe Burning Bush. Remember your bible, paranoids. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Keep posting though, cattle that can type are entertaining.

The pro's and con's are:

Pro's: The data and knowledge the subject holds is like no other I've seen and is useful in life. A great majority of Scientologist are ethical and honest and generally want to help.

Cons: Like many things in life it does cost money. Think mini college :P

Just how is an atheist theologically "neutral"?
by augiewest
And what in the hell are you babbling about a tithe being a payment for an adult to "ream" a child. I've met Christians who are crazier than rabid shit-house rats, bur you, kcroyals, are about as theologically "neutral" as Pastor Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Bunch. LOL!!!!!

Dear Mrbillshow,

Thank you.

Civility and apparent objectivity nice for a change. I would be interested in knowing where it is you get the information about:

  1. A great majority of Scientologists are ethical and honest and generally want to help. I would seem to agree by the information I got from their website however it is their website.

  1. Like many things in life it does cost money. I have heard this quite a bit do you know if you pay dues or if it is an annual percentage or what?

Thank you again.

I appreciate the attempt at a concise list of the pros and cons, but I feel that Mrbillshow has grossly oversimplified the discussion. My knowledge of Scientology is far from extensive, but as an example of something that I think should be included on the list:

Cons: Scientology's anti-psychiatry stance could potentially dissuade someone who could really benefit from therapy from seeking it.

Dear Bertrand,

I do agree there must be more to it than Mrbillsshow puts forward. That’s why I ask. However I cannot, at this time, take up the “Con” you put forward as I have not fully looked in the psychiatric debate myself. This is one which is being had by society as well as within the medical profession and has been ongoing since the days of psychiatry introducing lobotomies, electric/insulin shock treatment. (To keep it within my memory.) Scientologists may be just a tinny bit louder than the rest of society but, in my opinion, not much.

Thank you.

Biglizard,

I'll attempt to answer your questions:

Q "A great majority of Scientologists are ethical and honest and generally want to help. I would seem to agree by the information I got from their website however it is their website.'"

Umm not sure the website you went to so I couldn't tell you. And as to the moral principles scientologist do follow is in the book "the way to happiness" (non scientology related) by L. Ron Hubbard

Q: Like many things in life it does cost money. I have heard this quite a bit do you know if you pay dues or if it is an annual percentage or what?

You pay dues... like take the example that I just bought 2 books "the problems of work" and "Scientology: a new slant on life" and the courses to go along with each book. $50.00 for the course and $23.00 for the book. so around $146.00 (2 books and 2 courses)

Hope it helps.

Dear Mrbillshow,

The website I went to was www.scientology.org as I say according to this website Scientology appears to do some pretty good things but again, it is Scientology’s website.

I don’t see what the anti-Scientologists problem is with having to “buy” a book or “buy” a “course”. As long as you get something you want in return for your money who’s business is it?

Thank you for the information but after reading a lot of the posts here I am getting more confused by your information as it sounds very reasonable to me.

Thanks again.

P.S. Did you just buy those books to look or are you a Scientologist?
