So not right
by KevinBE

I can not believe the obtuseness of this piece. The Liberals STOLE taxpayers money to buy an election. They don't deserve to be in power.

And draconian legislation? Yes, a Tory member introduced an abortion bill - and for the record, Canada has NO law regarding abortion, not even regarding third trimester - but most Tories voted against it. They cut a few million dollars from a left-wing arts group, who responded with billboards showing Harper shaking hands with Hitler. They haven't cut spending on medicare or pensions. I defy you to name a single piece of legislation the Tories have passed that is controversial.

Harper has been a prudent and careful PM, and deserves another term. The Liberals have a leader who can't even speak English properly, and the NDP, the BQ, and the Greens (whose only MP was a defection from the Liberals) don't have a chance.

All your beautiful country needs to do is to look to the south and continue to not do things the way we do them in the USA.

You are on shaky ground with your rather scathing comments about other parties' leaders. That makes you sound like one of us. A simpler "not my personal preference for prime minister" would do you well. Remember that we have a president that "can't even speak English properly" and be wary of "misunderestimating" that kind of politician.

Tonto darling, verbally abusing even smart politicians is a Canadian sport. If you can't find something to bitch about with government, it's like being unpatriotic. Whoever is in power, they get squawked at. It doesn't even matter if you voted for them.

That's why it's so much fun to watch the action in the House of Commons!

I was hoping they'd be a little more civilized about their politics.

Troll alert on Politics.

Tonto, you clearly haven't heard about the infamous ads the Conservatives ran in the 1993 federal election claiming Liberal leader Jean Chretien spoke out of both sides of his mouth.

Not the worst insult, except that half of Chretien's face is paralyzed. To our credit, the ads were partly responsible for the Conservatives fall from a majority government to two seats in the House.

So - in Canada you remove liars from power. We in the USA tend to eelct them so long as they talk about the right "values".

I believe we do have a federal law banning abortion, but the law was found to be a constitutional violation.

Currently, abortion is regulated as a medical procedure, by the medical association. Most parties don't want to re-politicize this issue.

I don't think any Parliamentary system could ever be characterized as "nice". One of my co-workers in a neighbouring riding just got a conservative election ad about "prison reform" with pictures of first-nation inmates. This was for a riding with several reserves & a large urban native population, but also a lot white suburbs with half-million home & a sizable white cottage country population. The brochure was released a few days after five dangerous offenders escaped from the federal prison in the riding. To be honest, I can't imagine any federal-level US politician being that blatantly racist, but it really isn't that unusual up here.

And of course, there's always Calgary MP Rob Anders.

Though he probably picked up some of his tactics working for the Republicans.

I am uncertain of the country you are talking about and your terminology is not common to the USA.

The US struggle over abortion legality and regulation was at the state level until Roe vs Wade pre-empted state law and instituted a set of standards that states had to follow when they regulated abortions. The states have tried various ways to chip away at the prohibitions included in the decision, and several states have enacted outright prohibitions on certain kinds of abortion that were passed in anticipation of Roe vs. Wade being overturned.

Oh Tonto.........you are a peach. You actually managed to get through all the US liberal talking points here, how quaint. Grow up already and open your eyes. Liberalism is dead

Don't be a crybaby, these are the facts. You short-bus riders didn't get a civics class in special ed. Liberalism died in about 1948 with Truman's election, you missed the wake.
