good article
by ShaunN
This is a good summation of the present situation in Canada. As a politically aware, centre-left-leaning Canadian, I am heartsick at what the right-wing fanatics in this brutish Conservative government have done to this country. But, sadly, even though a solid majority of Canadians votes against the party, the nature of the political system means that parties need just 39-40% of the popular vote (depending on how it's distributed) to get a majority. Right now, a combination of weak and unpopular leadership for the Liberals combined with general disaffection has meant that the Conservatives are actually in majority territory. I can only hope that they collapse before the end of the election campaign, because a Conservative majority government would be a complete nightmare. Sadly, so long as the center left in Canada keeps fracturing the vote, this may continue and our country will become yet more inhumane.

I certainly hope the government gets some much needed attention from the new leadership. Canada is such a beautiful country - government, people and laws. Not to mention it has a killer coffee chain and incredible, breath taking landscape.

Damn those right-wing conservatives. We left-wing liberals hate it when someone upsets the status quo....how dare they!
