What was it about Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky that infuriated the Evangelicals so much? Was it the lying? Lying, we all should agree, is bad. But even the staunchest McCain/Palin supporters have to concede their candidates have been, well, lying a lot lately. (Or maybe every single member of the press is lying, but not McCain/Palin?)
Or was it the extra-marital sex? That's bad too. But is it worse than pre-marital sex? Judging by the Evangelicals total dismissal of poor Bristol's pregnant state, I'm guessing it is. But is that what the Bible says or is it just what they say so they can rationalize their staunchly Pro-Life candidate?
Nothing has exposed the hypocrisy of the Religious Right more nakedly than this pick of Sarah Palin. She has forced an entire movement to commit double-speak on every social issue they attack on, including sexism, premarital sex, honesty and loving your enemy as yourself.
I used to be one of you and I am so glad I am not anymore. The sad thing is: If Jesus ran for president of the United States, in the Republican party, I don't think he'd win a single vote. Only Democrats would vote for a guy who gives fish and bread (food stamps) to the poor, who heals the sick free of charge (universal health care) and who destroys the markets (market regulation) for operating on the Sabbath, and who defends a prostitute from the persecution of the Saducees and the Pharisees.
