What's the matter with Canada?
by Alan Christensen

Don't confuse our political system with our country as a whole. We are doing quite well thank you.

As for politics I would point out that our election was called on September 7 and will be wrapped up with ballots counted by October 15. In other words we've squeezed a whole federal election between your last convention and your e-day without months and months of campaigning and mud slinging. I'll take our system, warts and all over yours anytime.

I agree. The whole premise of the article that there is something "the matter" with Canada, that we are suddenly very different, is ridiculous.

There is nothing like a national election to show how very intelligent we are as a populace. A people get's the government they deserve it was once said and Canada always has.

We have not changed. We are still the good, cautious, realistic and kind people we have ever been.

I agree with the notion that Canadians are not their government. As a Canadian who resided in the states for 12 years I can firmly say that the average Canadian identifies less with their government or a certain political ideology than the average American.

Aye for sure, Canadians haven't suddenly changed or anything, Almost everything the author says amounts to "The canadians have a new party in power who are taking stances DIFFERNT from the last party! ohh my god the sky is falling!"

Canada has multiple parties and a healthy democratic debate (unlike the US which is polarized between two parties) thats good for a country. we're not somehow being "mean" because our conservitive government has shifted the governments stances. you're not mean simply because you don't follow the left leaning liberal party adgenda. the Liberals where in power far too long and need a good house cleaning. and they STILL do, I mean the scandle with quebec you noted.... the Liberal party's current leader was known as "Jean Cretchein's man in Quebec" The fact is last federal election was all about Change, Americans should be able to understand that. and we sure as hell didn't trust the incubant poarty to bring change just because they had a new leader who said he would
