If the Congress passes amnesty, Obama won't veto it
by Larry
The only question is whether Reid and Pelosi will greenlight it. I suspect they will. I see no difference between McCain and Obama on this one. Unless the country revolts, amnesty looks like a done deal.

Didn't you know? Money trumps democracy every time.

You're probably right on that score. There will be something passed by Congress. They'll dress it up with a new name, but it'll be the same amnesty program Reagan signed in the 80s. There really isn't any other practical way to deal with the huge population of illegal immigrants already here.

How about just enforcing the law?

You know, there is a REAL cost when a govt. makes it clear that it is not willing to enforce the law.

People comply less with all sorts of laws, from paying their taxes to going through red lights. This has a cost, too, that you are not taking into account.

I have personally talked to many legal immigrants who feel that they have been suckered by those illegals who jumped the line ahead of them - they say they have learned, and won't make that mistake twice.

The problem is, the real cost in dollars and cents to round up all 18 million (or whatever the figure is this week) illegal immigrants and ship them out is more than we're willing to pay. It's easy to say, "Just enforce the law", but ponying up the cash to do it seems like too much to ask for.

Not necessary to deport them. Just punish them enough to deter the crime. Whether this is a fine or whatever.

But Obama and Hillary wanted to give them driver's licenses.

If that doesn't send the wrong message, what does?

Obviously McCain is very wrong on this issue - but the Democrats are even worse.

But why when they provide such awesome cheap labor no doubt benefitting those who you wish would stop them at some level?

Globalism is coming whether you like or not. Ideas of total national soveriengty are becoming a thing of the past.

Again, you don't seem to understand the increase in law enforcement resources that would be required to find all of them.

And a fine? Do you really think that will deter anything? How are you going to collect a fine from a guy making sub-minimum wage picking watermelons? And if they can't pay, then what? Stick them in our already overcrowded prison system? Yeah, that'll work.

You are Lou Dobbs' nightmare.

LOL! Poor Lou.

I have an Aunt in Tennessee who constantly complains about people not speaking English, and Mexicans this and Mexicans that, and I asked her one time: When was the last time you actually interacted with a Mexican (illegal or otherwise) who could not communicate and rendered you unable to conduct your business?

Answer: Never.

Not saying it doesn't happen. But I just think alot the "illegal" problem is just in people's heads.

"Money" wants amnesty

Not Reagan-style...

It will certainly be tougher. There will be fines, and border enforcement will continue to toughen.
