So much for "family values"
by Cincy_Dude

The right wants to impose it's "family values" on the rest of us when their vice-standard bearer can't even control her own teenage daughter. (Sigh) It's the same thing, over and over again...

So much for abtenence-only education, so much for gay marriage wrecking the institution...

Oddly, that's not how it's being looked at. Her family is actually helping her instead of shunning her. I call that "putting one's money where one's mouth is", which is a nice change from politics as usual. Granted, I doubt that an extra mouth to feed in the Palin household is much trouble for them, so I'm not going to start tearfully sputtering about "great sacrifice". Still, it's nice to see a politician practice what s/he preaches, even if it's easy.

That is a solid point. If gays are supposed to be an affront to "Family values", what type of value does this family have?

Are you suggesting that Mrs. Palin somehow encouraged for forced her daughter to have sex before marriage? Or that Palin should have been a smarter parent and invested in a chastity belt?

As much as my father view's my "tree-huggeriness" (a.k.a I use the recycling bin) as "college hippie trash", I somehow doubt he MADE me hold the views that disagree with his. He is not a hypocrite because I recycle my cans. He would only be one if I found a goddess statue and a vegan diet book in his closet. The most you can argue is that perhaps Palin should revisit her views on comprehensive sexual education (because being the parent of a pregnant teen who might have known better is no fun). Unless she somehow had a say in her daughter's sexual activities, her daughter's actions can't be held against her.

In fact, this is the real argument for those who oppose Palin's stance on reproductive issues: Now that she's going through being a parent of a teenaged mother, who became pregnant in spite of a "good upbringing", wouldn't she like to see this happen less? After all, for the Palin family, an extra baby around is at worst an inconvenience. If you're making $20,000 a year and one of your daughters comes home with that news, it hurts only that much more...

yeah, right

Most Democrats (e.g. "leftists" in your mind) I know, have children. Never mind reality, though.

I seem to recall a time when the pregnancy of an unwed minor was considered by the right as a bad thing. This phenomenon-- the lack of self-discipline and respect for society's norms-- have long been used to blame poor ghetto dwellers (i.e. blacks) as the cause of their plight. That is, if only they didn't lead such a bad life style, they wouldn't be so bad off. Furthermore, teen pregnancy out of wedlock was immoral.

Now that the Palin slut has gotten herself into trouble, her apologists want to look at it as merely an opportunity for her parents to show off their family's support network. Gee, what a wonderful clan.

Would you have a link?

Oh, wow, calling a pregnant teen a "slut" is so original. Good job being progressive...if you lived in 1940.

"Trolling" is much like maturity - it's optional with age.

(Cont. Sorry) Also, it can be selectively applied. A troll in one thread might be a good commenter in another. That doesn't put the burden on me to find out.

Unless you are living under a very big rock you understand the risks.......period. To argue miss Palen's pregnancy is a product of "abstinence only" education is silly. It is a product of a 24 hour bombardment of images of sexual promiscuity and in particular a ramped up assult on women in general. Until we get a handle on the so-called "entertainment" beemed into our lives we will continue to have a steady decline in our collective humanity. This conservative, religious family is proof in the pudding!
