Apples and O-ranges of Hypocrisy

Chris,

Oh, come on! You simply cannot win the hypocrisy argument. It's not even to be made.

To start, Obama is the only person of the two candidates to fill out the Science Debate 2008 questionnaire. He solidly supports teaching science, whereas Palin & Co. support mumbo jumbo and fairy tales. He's not a hypocrite. He simply understands that science drives our country forward and leaves his beliefs out of it. Lack of dogmatism does not ipso facto make a hypocrite. Everyone else wants to dump us in a sled and shove us off to the Middle Ages. Is it more honorable because they really, really, really believe it with pixie dust on top?

It's completely ridiculous to tear down the Democratic Party on these terms. If the Dems are "hypocrites," then we should quiver in terror from the "sincerity" of the candidates on the other side of the ballot -- who were recently caught in a damning hurricane of hypocrisy on Jon Stewart's show right after the RNC.

So, please. There is no defense of a party like this -- one that would have us three steps from The Handmaid's Tale -- just to save your Iraq policies. If you became an American citizen to elect a party that steals our rights -- including a woman's right to choose -- then this is a doubly depressing statement for our country, that we attract such ignorance and inverted reasoning into our fold.
