Roll Bounce....
by salinqmind

...is one darned cute movie and I try to watch some of it every time it's on VH1. Yeah, the story has been done a billion times before. Cute kids, single dad looking for love, trying to attract the cute girl, disco roller skating competition! What's not to like? There's no drugs, thugs, swearing, drivebys - the 'hood is the suburbs. The roller skating stunts are spectacular, and often comical. The music takes me right back to the fun part of my life.

Roll Bounce - a feel-good movie that's more enjoyable than you might think!

I'd call it a guilty pleasure but I really don't feel guilty! It has a great cast, a great soundtrack, endearing characters, and a sweet story. Plus, it's set in Chicago!

I felt bad for the person who didn't watch it! I , too, thought it was a very good movie. I hope she re-rents it and gives it a go!

It is a feel good movie but it can have some negative affects. I was a pretty good skater when I was a teen, I could do a few tricks, the whole skating backwards while dancing kind of stuff and after watching Roll Bounce I decided to slap the roller skates back on and strut my stuff at the local rink........ Not a good idea in any sense of the word. I just want to tell people that skating is not like riding a bike, if you don't use it yes you will loose it. I was falling all over the place it was like starring in a gruesome episode of Three's Company and I was Jack Tripper.

I agree.

This is a very underappreciated movie. They captured the idiotic one upsmanship that kids that age love and did it in a really charming way.

Chi McBride is good in everything, but I especially loved this performance, both the comic and the dramatic bits. And as for Bow Wow, his line readings in the majority of the movie were pretty amateurish, but he seemed to tap into another level of his innate acting ability in the meltdown scene where he bashes his dad's car up and finally breaks down about missing his departed Mom.

Overall, kind of a forgotten gem of a little movie. Unambitious, but satisfying.
