Your irrational ranting about Palin shows your real fear of her as a candidate. Give her a week to get up to speed (she's only been in this race for a week) and she'll be available for all the usual shows and news conferences. Then you can judge her. Even libs must admit that the press piled on pretty quickly, but she came out of the pile unruffled and issued a challenge to "some in the media" to deal with her in a fair and balanced way. The mass media never has challenged Obama as sharply about many issues such as his lack of experience, his radical associations, the Rezko scandal, and his awkward and uncertain responses regarding Russia's invasion of Georgia, the surge in Iraq and dealing with leaders of rogue nations. But calling her "a sniveling coward"? Pretty far out, man.

McCain needed Sarah Palin to tie down the social conservatives and especially the religious right for his campaign. He wasn't ever convincing when he said what they wanted to hear. Plus, she didn't have the extensive and negative coverage in place that McCain's primary election rivals received - from McCain's campaign.

I think the press was sort of pre-fed the scandalous allegations that are flying around. The blogs made her out as the likely pick a few days early and the family feud that has surrounded her in Alaska led a rapid spread of the smear stories. I won't speculate on the merit of the stories since I don't know whether they are true or not.

For good or bad, she will have read the briefing books and be somewhat ready to go on the issues in a week or two and the scandal stories will either die down or get really intense by then as well. We will quickly find out if she is able to handle a question that's not covered in the briefing books, too. There's a lot of risk for McCain in that scenario since she has no experience dealing with the national press or with national issues. She could flub a softball question or she may do well.

Sarah Palin has flat out lied about her position on the bridge to nowhere. She was for it before she was against it. She has been a huge fan of earmarks. She has been linked to a pro-Ted Stevens 527 group. She thinks it's fine to teach intelligent design in science class. She is fighting to keep the polar bear off of the endangered sopecies list. Sarah Palin should have the guts to go on a news program and explain herself on all of these issues .
