New sex scandal on Sarah Palin?
by old new lefty
The latest issue of the National Enquirer says that Sarah Palin had an affair with the First Dude's business associate. Steve Schmidt of the McCain campaign is threatening legal action, but the Enquirer is standing by the story.

Okay, as much as I think Palin is a nutbar, I think we need to draw the line on using the National Enquirer as a source of reliable news.

Yeah, they were right about Edwards, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

This story could be true, but I want to see it in a more reputable source before I believe it.

I agree, just because the Republicans used scandal to attack Obama doesn't mean we should stoop to that level.

"... just because the Republicans used scandal to attack Obama doesn't mean we should stoop to that level."

It is said that the Democrats are in the habit of bringing a knife to a gunfight. John Kerry will testify to that. It is also said that turnabout is fair play. For myself, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the show.

The Enquirer is a rag -- but more because of the Jerry Springer stories it cares about than because it is dishonest. It is not. It is actually quite good at rooting out the filth and then publishing it.

It publishes filth, true - but it does not often publish lies. It is disturbing that Palin is an Enquirer story not because the Enquirer is lying, but because the Enquirer is even interested. Would the Enquirer be investigating anyone else? Would the Enquirer be investigating Clinton, or Kay Bailey Hutchinson? No.

The Enquirer is investigating Palin because the Palin family appears to be real Jerry Springer stuff.

I'm such they would have been digging just as hard into Hutchinson or Clinton's backgrounds had they been nominated for Veep. Whether they would have found any new dirt on either one is another question.

I don't trust tabloids. Maybe the NE is more accurate in its reporting than the Weekly World News. Maybe it's not. It's still reporting sleeze and I think we should be better than that.

I know the republicans would be screaming their heads off if it were a report about Obama or Biden having an affair. That's all the more reason to be above it.
