Something To Chew On

When Sarah Palin made her grand entrance on the stage at the Republican convention it had high levels of interest. Would her shallow level of experience create some great gaff? Would she commit a great blunder? Would her lack of knowledge in domestic policies, foreign relations, the economy, or military affairs surface?

That was the curiosity that stirred the interest, but that wasn't even remotely possible.

Sarah Palin delivered a speech, not written by herself, almost no candidate writes their own. It was a carefully crafted speech, no doubt worked on and refined by many skilled speech writers. There's also little doubt that she was cautioned to not deviate one word from the text prepared for her. She was, for the first time in her political career, in deep water and there was no room for "winging it". What she did reveal in her performance was a startling comparison between herself and the top of her ticket. Unlike John McCain, who is always as boring as reading a phone book, she could entertain with her speech. Unlike John McCain, who's reknowned for his stumbles and mumbles, she can deliver a line. She overshadowed McCain, maybe not such a good thing.

But her speech did reveal something. The speech writers made sure of that. It was the tone, a mocking tone. While it played well with other Republicans in a controlled environment, in the days ahead a whiny, mocking theme may not prove to be a winning strategy. Just a quick observation about one portion of her speech illustrates that point. She took great pleasure, and received great approval from the Republican delegates as she mocked the work history of Barack Obama. Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard and could have immediately written his own ticket with a vast array of major corporations, but he decided to sacrifice and enter community service. As an aside, McCain didn't graduate with honors, he barely squeaked by, graduating 894 out of 899.

So Sarah Palin mocked his community service as a community organizer. Her words were wildly cheered by the Republican delegates. They laughed and hooted... a commutiy organizer, how funny. When she got to the part about demeaning the work of community organizer, comparing it to her noble work as a governor, she brought the crowd to their feet in a state of frenzy. Republicans just really like that mocking and demeaning stuff and Sarah Palin was delivering.

But a thought, today a guest on NPR made a very interesting observation. "Jesus was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a governor." I wonder if the cheering throng of Republican delegates are ready to mock and demean that service? Let's chew on that one for a bit.

you poor stepford wife (that is if anyone has ever been desperate enough to marry you) you just don't get do you? How bad of shape do you think this world be in without community organizers? It would not be a pretty picture.

As far as we democrats thinking that Obama is our Jesus...well, little girl, you and your ilk seem to have out W. in the place of God and Palin as the virgin Mary.

Go back to the hopscotch game with other little kids. The grown ups here are having and adult discussion.

Hmmm.....pause....yes they are.

Fatal flaw with your argument - you are refering to the Jesus that drove the money changers out of the temple with a rod. Our Nondenominational Republican Xians of today worship Jumbotron Jesus, the motivational Jesus that teaches you wealth is just a glimpse of the rewards ahead if you vote correctly.

In Nondenominational Jesus land, it is our governor Sarah that is hanging on the cross in an American Flag Bikini with a placard that read NRA.

Everyone kneel. No staring....

Take it easy on Teigan..

Her husband has retired and she has done whatever it is called when you quit working and live off what your husband retired on and now she is having trouble understanding how society works - like why should she pay for public schools if she isn't going to school for free and neither is her kids.

Or why she should pay for infrastructure if she isn't driving much anymore.

And she is at that age where you start resenting people younger than you.

You get over a certain age you and you simultaneously lose your facilities and get scared you are going to die poor and alone.

Not a pretty site.

Sorry you feel that a woman accomplishments are totally meaningless.

I guess that would go for you too. You worked three jobs and raised a family, but you are not worthy of any respect. Your lifes work is meaningless because, your still just a woman and all you've done is your duty. But your husband on the other hand can take the credit for supporting the family and being the head of your household, your just the pretty woman.

I'm sure that you being the dutiful little stepford wife are happy to comply with anything the master of your house request of you.

Thats a real liberated woman.

Actually your full of shit. My husband and I worked side by side for decades. We built a business from scratch, provided jobs, gave to charities and were very successful.

We are now reaping the benefits of our years of hard work and are retired and loving it.

The American Dream requires one to work for what they want, but as a liberal you wouldn't understand that, now would you.

What you understand is sitting on your lazy ass a whining because your not given everything you want. Living off other peoples work is your motto.

Well I got news for you. Your going to spend the rest of your life whining until you get off that lazy ass and make it happen for yourself.

Schools out loser.

Nah, we were just observing the latest hypocrasy of the Republican Party. That's all.
So nice to talk to you again....

You always seem to go away when the arguing gets a little too tough.

Not sure how I qualify as a liberal tho.....I guess the golden rule in the Movement Conservative Camp is that you if you disagree with the Movement Conservative Camp then you are a liberal.

Cute. Joe whats-hi-name was like that too.....Stalin!

Anyway, I am a private business owner, business from scratch, provide jobs, charities, blah, blah, blah and work full time as a salaried employee in a very conservative company - they love me - because my very liberal dad and very liberal mom taught me that I didn't have to be liberal like them, but I did have to follow their example of being both a good citizen and a good father and a good member of society and hard work was not the right way to live your life, it was the only way.

BTW, the American dream is not to work hard for what you want - that is the Consumer Dream, remember? Consumer? The corporations want you to work hard so you can buy their stuff. The American Dream is to work hard so that everyone that can work hard can have an opportunity to have a decent life and to work hard so that those that can't can share that dream too.

Work hard so you can buy more things? I don't think so.

Jesus never said anything about homosexuals oddly enough, but he had some pretty harsh things to say about rich people and their comfortable life styles.

He said they weren't going to heaven. Damn. I hope that doesn't mean me.

teigan thinks that all liberals, progressives and Democrats are on welfare.

It must really surprise her that most of them are hard-working Americans who join the military, pay taxes, attend PTA meetings, coach little league, attend church and just want what's best for the future of this country.

We have all voted for successful women politicians so her argument is unfounded. I wonder how many Democratic women she has voted for?

What did you do, Ms. Teigan, run a LIQUOR STORE?

Your narcissim and pettiness is clear evidence of your pathetic role in production.

My father, a lifelong Democrat, for instance, helped weld STEEL I-beams that span bridges and freeways that people, including truck drivers, use for trade etc. to this very day, beyond his own death. He did good, worked hard, and never talked like you do, he just added REAL VALUE to the global economy, and helped solve real problems in real people's lives.

You probably sell liquor to people who cannot get jobs because Ronnie Raygun sent our jobs away for cheap labor.

at one time not so long ago, teigan was trying to own a restaurant. That is not a good business these days. I know she didn't like the government telling her how little she could get away with paying her employees.

Don't you just love the way Republicans are always calling us angry and what do we see here from them? Oh, they aren't angry, just mean and degrading of a large group that is tired of their bullshit, lies, corruption and wars.

Re: So nice to talk to you again....

If you don't like to have people judge you then maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge others, like you did me.

I have no problem with those that are not able to work getting a helping hand. What I do object to is my hard earned money being taken from me and given to those who CHOOSE not to work. They cheat the system and steal from those who are truly in need. Our system of welfare, medicare and social security is being robbed everyday. And until the government can figure out a way to stop the thieves, then yes I have a problem with turning over my hard earned money to mismanagement.

I do and will continue to support charities that I can see do good work for those in need.
