Sarah Palin insulting to women?
by shaper079

I fail to see how Sarah Palin's nomination could be insulting. She was NOT nominated to replace Hillary she was nominated to revitalize the republican base. in other words she isn't supposed to appeal to liberal women, she is supposed to appeal to conservative men and women who feel McCain is not far enough to the right.

No she is not Hillary. She was never intended to be. If she is an insult then Hillary Clinton was an insult to conservative women? Ridiculous, The fact is women have reason to be proud that the glass ceiling is now vulnerable to ALL of them liberal and conservative alike. In fact the day may not be far off when we have women on both tickets.

It is also possible that she was selected to make the debate and the election about her. That has happened and if it holds I think John McCain becomes President. Obama needs to focus the debate back on George W. Bush. He is the Republicans achilles heel, not Sarah Palin.

My issue with Sarah Palin, other than her extremist agenda, is that if this person were named Samuel Palin, or Steven Palin, they would not have even registered on the radar. She's not qualified to lead this country, yet she was chosen anyway. That's not blindness to gender in my book.

If it were a woman of more substance, such as Elizabeth Dole, or Christine Todd Whitman, or even Condoleeza Rice, I would still respect John McCain even though I disagree with him. Instead this Mean Girl from high school may potentially be a hearbeat away from the Presdiency.

The mind boggles.

Daily Show

Did you happen to catch the Daily Show two nights ago in which Jon Stewart contrasted Karl Rove praising Palin's experience with Karl Rove slamming Tim Kaine's much greater experience. Brilliant.

I think John McCain's move, as some of his own supporters said (though they didn't want us to hear), cynical. It is cynical because he was doing nothing more than appealing to the extreme right of his party. It was also cynical because, somewhere along the way, there was a belief that the mere pick of a woman would sway some HRC supporters.

This was evident when Palin, whose views are diametrically opposed to Clinton's, acted if the two were soul mates on the first two occasions that she was introduced to the country. Tell me when Republicans have ever tried to lavish praise on Clinton. Of course, the second time, it backfired and the crowd actually booed the mention of Clinton's name.

But why Palin?

If McCain wanted a women to help him shattered the glass ceiling or at least attract disaffected women voters, why pick a virtual unknown instead of say:

Kay Bailey Hutchinson?

Olympia Snowe?

Elizabeth Dole?

Or any of a dozen or so other republican women with much more recognition and more achievement than a woman who 2 years again was trying to get books banned from a library serving 9,000 people?

That's what's insulting. That McCain thought any woman would do, so he picked the one with the most extreme rightwing credentials to appease the dobsonites.

Exactly!

If you agree with Palin on the issues, then it's not an insulting pick. However, John McCain is attempting to shore up support among his base while he targets women in the middle to middle left. The notion that women are stupid enough to vote for someone who shares nothing but the same reproductive organs is insulting.

Both candidates had to shore up their base. The Messiah had to kiss and make up with the Clintons and minimize the PUMAs. The community organizer had to deal with a split party. McSame had to fire up his lukewarm base. It is obvious that Palin was a great choice. Both did what was needed.

And yet, the "Messiah" as you called him, didn't do what the PUMAs were clamoring for: Put Hillary in the Veep slot. Instead, he went with someone he felt comfortable stepping into the role if anything happened to him.

If Palin becomes Veep and something happens to McCain. I know what I'll be doing: Standing guard at my local library to protect it against the coming book burnings.

No he didn't, he chose a British politician to shore up his lack of experience.

You can stand guard at the library and I will guard the radio station to make sure the well documented Chicago political machine doesn't intimidate The Messiah's adversaries by suppressing free speech and removing signatures from voter petitions.

+1 for McSame because when The Messiahs followers attack her it will boomerang back to him.

i am not a dobsonite but do have a spiritual problem with abortion. i have a problem with the taking of any sentient life. i am tired of being labeled because of my opposition to abortion. if you don't want a baby, don't get pregnant, news flash, birth control works! i know plenty of women who know how to take a pill.

That's great. And if Palin gets her way, they won't have access to the pill because the GOP wants to classify it as an "aborticiant".
