Soccer Mom & Hockey Mom??
by Vacherie900

As an Independent voter, black female from the SOUTH, and grew up in an ethnic background that DID NOT consist of Soccer & Hockey. SO, does that mean that GOV. Palin is NOT camaigning for ME, and my many other hundreds of thousands of Black, Chines, Asian, and other NON-WHITE SUBURBAN women in America??

While I have white, creole, indian, and other races in my immediate family background, we can honestly say that there is 90% of white females that fit the "soccer-hockey" profile in America? Also, as a two-time breast cancer survivor, who lost "three" sisters, an Aunt, three first cousins, and two second cousins to this disease, I wanted to hear MORE about HEALTH CARE!!! I did not! And that disturbes me.

Lastly, Gov. Palin vowed to keep the marriage sacred between man and woman. That fine, BUT, we all know that the GAY Citizens are being totally ignored on this point. Is it fair for those; who has been in lasting relationships, to be left out in the cold? Marriage is sacred, but when you "puch" marriage on a 17-year-old for the sake of "LOOKING GOOD" in the public, I have to wonder about that? Why didn't Gov. Palin's daughter get married after the first month of her pregnancy, why now since she is in the spotlight? Many, many questions, need many, many answers!!!

The candidates need to give me more in order for me to decide.

That just goes back to how annoyed I am with her press release on respecting her family's "choice", and yet she is campaigning to take away the ability to choose from millions of Americans, be they gay or unwantedly inpregnated. It's the hipocritical stance that I have gotten used to from politicians as a whole. Besides, different-sex couples have been muddying the sanctity of marriage since the bond was created! Don't preach to me about how we are keeping it sacred. PLEASE!

What bugs me is the fact that she uses the term at all. "Soccer mom" was not coined by a middle calss suburban mother. It was coined by a demographer to describe a certain slice of voters. That demographer shared the term with the press. The women it described disliked the term almost immediately. Understandably so, since no one likes being reduced to a statistic.

Mrs Palin's use of the term seems like a plain-old cynical attempt to get a certain class of women to identify with her, despite the fact that she actually has very little in common with them.

Well as a single mom an ex soccer coach...I don't care what she calls herself my kid proudly plays field hockey and we think ice hockey is for wimps!

Is it the balancing on thin blades on slick ice while managing a small puck with a thin stick that makes you think they are wimps? Then again, I wish we had field hockey so my son didn't have to work so hard at being good. Running on the two legs God gave him seems much easier than what he has to do with ice hockey. ; )
