You assume wrong
by ogmike

The statement says...

...there are 347,061 players under the age of 20 registered with the organization across the country. Presumably, most of these players have moms, although since there are some households with multiple hockey players, we can assume that 347,061 is a rather high estimate.

The word his PLAYERS not MOMS, so the estimate cannot be high due to multiple PLAYERS in the same household.

Nice try at spin.

I appreciate the authors closing statement "Nice try at spin", so true. It has irritated me for years how the media like yourself always write from their own perspective (Anti-Republican and nearly always anti-family) city dwellers with deadlines, coffee cups and cigarettes but perhaps not children or spouses? (Current ones anyway. ) I have a piece of advice , STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF! I loved Sarah Palins words" Here's a newsflash!" "I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion!, I'm going there to serve the people of this great nation" By the way ALL of the news people left out the word "Great" in that quote when I saw it later. Why?

That brings me back to my point. My kids don't play hockey, although I know poorer households than mine that do! But I completely identify with Mrs. Palins no nonesense, get the job done, stick up for those of us in the trenches..." What I call the people who are raising kids and paying bills in this country, approach.

These gas prices are killing us not just at the pump, but at the grocery store, on the farm, yes even at the hockey rink/ soccer field, and especially with our foreign relations.

Congress sitting on thier hands while foreign and greedy domestic interests gouge us Hockey/ soccer Moms (and anybody else who's just trying to hang onto their house and living!) has got to stop! Sarah's the one who's willing to work with John McCain to stand up to do nothings in both parties!

I don't want to hear your spin, I'll just listen to John McCains speech re-runs, they make a lot more sense and are full of hope for our dear country that we (us lowly hockey/soccer/basketball/ballet/tennis/ little league...) MOMS love so much!

Yeah, thank God for media outlets like Fox News who always report well-researched and unbiased facts and never spin things out of context. The danged liberal media could learn a thing or two from them! (Note the dripping sarcasm)

I think you'd have to add a lot of former hockey moms to the list for all the players who recently turned 20 or who stopped playing.

A few hundred dollars per year for equipment? I'm sorry, that's what my parents paid for me back in 1975. Right now, it costs between $3,000 to $5,000 to put a kid on the ice for a season. Double that if your kid's a goalie.

Yeah, I got a good kick at that "few hundred dollars" statement as well. My son is only 5 and we just paid close to a thousand dollars to get him suited up for his first season. I hear it only gets higher from here.

Two of our sons wanted to play so much they are working to pay for it themselves. Future entrepreneurs! All moms are proud to see their sons working hard and achieving goals! (Pun intended!)
