Wasilla, AL, got $27 million in federal earmarks
by Anse

Why?

My hometown here in Texas has a population of about 10,000. Their annual operating budget is just under $9,000,000.

If you go to Wasilla's website, their annual budget is listed at just under $14,000,000.

We all know the cost of living is higher in Alaska, so there's nothing noteworthy about a small Alaska town having a signficantly higher budget than one would find elsewhere.

What I want to know is why Wasilla, Alaska, required $27 million of your federal tax dollars? Alaska makes tons of money from oil revenues. Palin cut property taxes in Wasilla as mayor and increased the sales tax. They had a budget surplus before Palin came in; after she left--even with that big fat pile of federal money--Wasilla was $22 million in debt.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what Republicans call a "maverick."

Sounds like another Bush clone to me.

It's AK not AL - you sure you are a teacher?

Oh goddammit...my mistake. But forgive me, Alabama, Alaska...both are full of redneck Republicans. I guess I got confused.

From your article:

The list included $1 million for a hospital where Mr. Obama’s wife works, money for several projects linked to campaign donors and support for more than 200 towns, civic institutions and universities in Illinois.

Your confusion seems to be a constant state. This is the USA not the old CCCP, we take our freedom seriously here. Free speech and all something Obama and Biden are against.

BTW..does your town in TX live in 24 hr darkness

four months out of the year? How about those 40 degrees below 0 nights? A few blizzards every year?

It costs more to build roads and maintain infrastructure in AK than it does in Podunk, TX.

It does indeed, Anse. Her hypocrisy on the issue of earmarks is obvious to anyone who looks at the issue. She has done one thing and claimed to have done something else on that and other issues, including the "bridge to nowhere."

A typically dishoenest republican, I'm sorry to say.

Wow, that's a really strong rebuttal, HST. You showed him! :)

Thx

Since we're nitpicking, making a mistake in the abbreviation of a state's name is not a geographic one, HST, but a grammatical one related to conventions of description. I think we can assume that he knows the relative locations of Alaska and Alabama.

How does that disprove that Gov. Palin got earmarks for Wasilla or Alaska, Sgt.? And what point does it make, since Gov. Palin is notoriously opposed to earmarks?

Given this statement:

"Free speech and all something Obama and Biden are against."

it seems that you're the one in a "constant state of confusion." The only "freedom" you seem to take seriously is the freedom to insult and attack others with lies.
