Double Standards?
by JimW

Its a well know fact that VP candidates are expected to be the attack dog on the opposing presidential candidate. Joe Biden did quite a lot of attacking John McCain in his speech last week. Did we see hundreds of post expressing disgust? No we didn't.

Sarah Palin attacks Barck Obama in her speech and suddenly everybody is outraged. I'm sorry but what I am seeing from a lot of the posters here is a complete double standard.

I don't agree with practically anything that Sarah Palin stands for and I don't agree with much that John McCain stands for either. But I'm not going to suddenly pretend that its all right for Democrats to attack the Republican candidate when its not all right for the reverse to happen.

Partisan politics exists on both sides and NEITHER side is above it. A lot of people here need to grow up and get over themselves.

I want a Democratic White House after this election and I would imagine the majority of the posters on this site do as well. Self-indulgent outrage isn't going to achieve that. So lets get over ourselves and move on.

Too much emotions about the meanless factor. People should focus on the issues.

Just look at what Palin stands for. IF those are policies one like than she is your gal.

To be fair to the XX-Factor

Slate writers and most Fray posters, apparently, it's doubtful that many of them actually watched Joe Biden's scripted performance and inept delivery last week without falling asleep during the process . . .

. . . and so they [confirmed in my discussion with most hysterical Obama fanatics on these fray boards] have absolutely NO IDEA that Joe Biden repeated kicked McCain in the crotch during his vp speech . . . just like he was supposed to do.

Ahem! I did note that Sarah Palin DID hit every point T-Boone Pickens laid out as necessary in order to win his support for the presidential run as regards drilling and natural gas usage. That was interesting, and NEITHER the Left nor Right dedicated television journalists picked up on that. One assumes, however, that Mr. Pickens definitely noticed.

This has become a very interesting presidential race indeed.

Let's hold Joe and Sarah to the same standard

How many lies did Biden tell? How about Palin? How much about his own record did Biden lie? How about Palin?

On a strictly point-by-point basis, Palin came short of Biden.

It is not emotion at all. I actually though the speech was "unprofessional" : and indeed too heavy on the emotional-personal side and light on the issues-record, Even if you want to compare it directly with the Biden speech (text at: <link> ) where the "attacks" of Mc Cain are mostly point by point opposition of the respective positions McCain versus Obama.

regarding what she stands for, it is my personal feeling that I can never vote for someone who has no sufficient grasp of science, and whose positions regarding women represent a heavy dose of "obscurantism". I am sensing a lack of education, but that just my opinion I will just have to see if she manages to disprove it.

Interesting? How?

Anything Palin accomplished Wed, McCain undid with his speech. "I fell in love with America as a Prisoner in another country"?

Does that mean that he did not have a love for America when he was bombing the people who captured him? He was killing civillians for America as what, a mercenary?

Sorry, McCain's speech may have sold the audience, but it fizzled with anyone using an ounce of critical reasoning.

But it will be interesting to see how Palin does with Biden. I suspect that she will shrill herslef into oblivion.

Hear hear. Joe Biden's not a "mean boy" or a "bully" to these XX factor pinheads, but Palin's a "mean girl."

Also, she's not a feminist, you see, because despite achieving great success and power, and despite standing up for the idea that women can accomplish anything, she's not (apparently?) in the business of "knocking down barriers to human progress." I guess that must be what community organizers do!!

It's so laughable, and encouraging. You can start to see the gears turning in their stupid little heads on XX factor: "oh my god, we've lost. We can't *tell* them we've lost, because then they'll smell the blood in the water...maybe we can just call this woman a gender traitor and her daughter a slut and her husband a redneck and the problem will go away..."

not going away!! Palin '12 baby!!

Just want to plaster the boards with this clip, in the futile hopes that somebody on the right has a reasonable explanation?

I watched Biden's speech and just re-read it to make sure. I didn't see any outright lies or vicious attacks. It was a standard line-by-line assertion of the difference between the candidates. The harshest thing I could find is that John McCain doesn't get it. If you'd be so kind as to point out a particularly mean or untrue statement, I'll be happy to ratchet up my outrage.
