Palin pulls nearly as many viewers...
by TopHall
...as Obama. Just heard that nearly 37 million viewers tuned in last night, about the same that tuned into Obama's speech (his was slightly over 37 million). Any idea when a VP candidate speech nearly equalled a presidential candidate's speech?
But - but - but . . .

she is only the mayor of some small podunk town in Alaska, for crying out loud who believes in GOD and he is a Harvard educated US Senator with vastly more speaking experience. It just doesn't seem fair.

Republicans are excited and Independents are boarding the train. Obama may be a "citizen of the world", but She is the talk of the World !!!
The more apt comparison . . .

While Sarah Palin drew 37.2 million viewers last night, her counterpart, Joe Biden attracted only 24 million. The event also drew 5.2 million more female viewers than Hillary's speech last week.

Interesting. The touted "united and energized" Dems drew 13.2 FEWER viewers than the "everyone hates you" Reps? Wow. No wonder the libs are unhinged in their quest to destroy Palin.

She doesn't get bragging rights, unless she pulled MORE...and she DIDN'T.

I almost played basketball for the All American Redheads, too....but I didn't!

I wonder if it was because my hair wasn't red enough?!

So you don't think it is significant...
by TopHall

...that the Rep VP candidate drew less than 1 million viewers less than the overwhelmingly acclaimed Dem PRESIDENTIAL candidate? Well, okay...

Oh, BTW, Palin CERTAINLY has bragging rights over pathetic Joe Biden, 37 mil to 24 mil.

But nowhere near the 80,000 Obama drew on a lovely star lit night in Denver.

People tuned in to see what she's all about since no one had heard of her and last night, the saw her for what she is--an empty skirt.

Unhinged? Hardly. An old axiom you might want to remember: Never count the number of your juvenile inhabitants before the period of incubation is fully expired.

Maybe you haven't heard but Obama raked in &80 million so he's not doing badly. I guarantee that figure will be higher after the Grands Palin screech.

How many of the 80,000...

...were in the fat cat lobbyist sky boxes?

WASHINGTON -- Facing a large deficit in the Democratic National Convention budget, officials from Barack Obama's campaign have begun personally soliciting labor unions and others for contributions of up to $1 million. In exchange, donors could get stadium skyboxes for Obama's acceptance speech and other perks.

Obama has regularly criticized politicians seeking large donations outside the framework of campaign finance regulations -- so-called soft money -- while touting the virtues of relying on small donations.

Yep, and 37 million tuned in to see what a lying, phony, hypocrite the "Chicago thug" (thanks, Bill C!) is.

They may feel they want to watch what all the candidates have to say from all parties running so that when they go to cast their vote, they know from where they are casting from.

You might have also noted all the furor since McCain picked a running mate few people were familiar with from a state where McCain came in last in their 2008 Republican Caucus.

Perhaps you have heard of "rubber necking".,..."morbid curiosity"? Train and auto wrecks draw big crowds too. Perhaps those that were not viewing in to become familiar with a realtive unknown were there rubber necking out of morbid curiosity.

You see, we all can sling mud, but when we sling mud at others, we should be aware, mud could be slung at us or those we support for the same reasons.

Personally, this seems quite an unecessary reaching for comparisons intended to offer some sort of brighter shine for Sarah Palin as a VP choice as compared to Obama as a Presidential choice. I doubt Palin herself would be as impressed as you seem to be.

If reaching for slim comparisons is the order of the day, Sarah Palin has more executive experience than McCain. Maybe McCain should move over and be the VP candidate to her Presidential one.

When all the furor and conventions are over, people are going to begin to focus on other things besides whether Sarah Palin can draw curious people or skin a moose. What they are going to start asking is whether McCain and Palin are the same kind of Republicans we have seen in the last 8 years or are they just more of the same with minor tucks and pulls here and there?

You seem awfully sensitive...

...to my simple question. I just asked if anyone could point out when a VP candidate (of any party) drew nearly the same audience as the Presidential candidate (of any party). Of course, maybe your ramblings are just covering your nervousness of what a weak ticket the Dems have produced.

I'd be surprised if it had happened in the past, since this is such an unusual situation. Thanks to the unprecedented length and ferocity of the Democratic nomination fight, the public is already very familiar with Obama, somewhat diminishing the curiosity factor. Meanwhile, Palin's the least experienced VP pick in the modern era, and was an utter unknown to nearly all Americans just a week before her speech, so the curiosity factor is going to be very high.
Your "simple" question had what intent?
by KnotaFrayed

To try to pull Sarah Palin up in stature, pull Obama down in stature or both and by your own logic, why would someone who was not worried about the strength of their own ticket feel a need to try to suggest that a TV audience comparison might offer some elevation of their own ticket, some pulldown of anothers?
