Please no more wedding gift letters
by posty
Seems like the same damn question has been answered by Prudie dozens of times. Yes, it's rude to dictate what gifts you want without being asked. Ok, we get it. Can we please move on now?

Just run one final letter about the bride who staffed a cash register at the reception and billed guests for their for and drinks. Or the bride who didn't want gifts, just a credit card imprint. Once Prudie's run those two, she can move on.

Maybe one from a callgirl wondering if she could offer "appointments" to the groomsmen as her wedding gift.

Maybe these letters need to be repeated as long as people continue to put their gift preferences in the invitation.

No. It really is too fucking boring, and I can't bring myself to care if someone sends me an invite with a registry or not in it. Hell, if they do and I plan on going that saves me one step in doing the polite thing myself.

We've had Labor Day; wedding season should be over. But yeah, I pity people who don't know how to ignore the perceived tackiness of whatever invitations they receive, and just give the couple whatever they would have anyway!

"Is [whatever] rude?"

Yes.

"How can I make {whomever] do what I want?"

You can't.

Get rid of those two letters, and not much is left.

You pretty much nailed the letter situation here. The only other main type that would be left is:

My SO is really great, except for {perceived character defect/physical flaw/personality quirk} should I leave or stay?
