$.87 Cents A Gallon?!
by Loree

If you are lucky enough to live in Utah, and luckier yet, to have a car that will run on natural gas (used cars so equipped are hot items!), then you would only be paying .87 cents a gallon for the NG needed to run it!

The story is <link> here!

Hello Loree,

Actually, you don't have to live in Utah and pay nothing or slip the driver a few bucks-if you know the right people or know how to bs.

I remember when I was a kid living in rural OK(cheapest gas in the nation today), I had a fishing buddy that converted his '67 Chevy pickup to NG.. Anyway, instead of paying for it, he would hit up the trucks that were all over the place from all the wells around.

Thanks from one Okie to another for your reply:-)

Granted I left Oklahoma (not on my own!) when I was 3 months old:-)

But one thing can be said about Okies...they have more common sense in their little toe alone, than do most people in what passes for their brain:-)

Ingenuity in your friends case? Probably, but born of necessity:-)

I still have relatives (cousins) at Cherokee and Enid.

I must confess though, that Kansas is my adopted home:-, though I'm very close to 'lapland'...about 18 miles (more or less) north of lapland:-)

Natural Gas will be going up this winter Loree. You can run almost any vehicle on NATURAL GAS. See these LINKS:

Doing it the hard way... Skip NATURAL GAS and go to ELECTRIC. Why, it's obvious--more parts to take care of.

Seasoldier/Old technology backed by gasoline both owned by oil companies.

What are your propane costs in Kansas? Farmers normally use propane in their trucks. Hahahahahahahahaha

Shame on your buddy write_on. Hahahahahahahahahahaha

Americans doing what they know best under pressure from a disorganized ruthless government.

I watched this kid install an electric drive system in an old Volkswagen bug. I could never work in that condition. All praises go out to him for his efforts and soon he will be driving an ALL ELECTRIC CAR, something we should have been doing since the thirties.

Seasoldier/Avoid a let down go electric. Watch this kid take care of his baby and make the conversion. It is not that hard folks.

You're welcome.

Ahh, common sense. I'm sure you've had conversations with people that are book smart but lack it. With most, it's like talking to a robot.

Exactly. It was ingenuity that grew out of necessity probably because he was born during the Depression. He didn't t need to at the time but figured he could pay for his fishing trips with the money he saved.

Most of my family is in OK. I have an older brother that lives in Houston but I don't think he'll ever leave there.

I can see understand Kansas being your adopted home. You were very young when you left.

I don't drive my pickup probably two times a month, and that is five miles into town, and five miles back, plus only what is necessary IN town. So I'm not that worried about it, but boy, do I feel for those who HAVE to drive...to work every day, some of them for miles and miles.

I have no idea what propane is at the present time, as I have natural gas here at my house. I can tell you for sure what my 'even pay' plan costs me...$106.00 per month, year round, and I look for that to go up at the next adjustment point.

I had a phone call from a friend of mine in New York state, this past week. Constance and I were discussing everything, naturally. HER 'even pay' (budget plan) runs her a bit OVER $400 PER MONTH...for heating oil. She told me of an elderly woman she knew, on a fixed income, who was paying over $800 per month, and the poor thing called the supplier and told them not to bring her any more...that from now on, she would just try and purchase a 'little bit' at a time, and pay as she went. Isn't that pathetic?! I feel guilty bitching about my $106 a month here at my house.

What will happen to people like that old woman this coming winter? New York winters can be rough...I spent 8 years there as a kid, so I know first hand, and we were in agabout the middle of the state. Up state is one of the coldest places inside the US borders!

If I was still using NATURAL GAS, and used your numbers above my yearly cost for NATURAL GAS would have been $1272.00 for just one year. That same money would pay to upgrade your ELECTRIC PANEL so you could take the next step and bury the old water heater systems with a new ELECTRIC TANKLESS WATER HEATER, which I contribute to huge savings on my electric bill. They cost, depending on the model selected, around $800.00 and will help you recoup your money the second year plus my service doesn't even have these items listed for rebates yet! I paid $552 last year for all of my heating and cooling electrically! Every year you go forward is a savings and CONSERVATION is the key.

Seasoldier/When I get finished with these additions they will all require NO HEATING or COOLING yet further reduce that energy bill in Kilowatt Hours.

Some years back I recall that when we siphoned-off fuel or otherwise obtained it without spending a penny we called that using "Our Oklahoma Credit Card."

As for nat gas, I hear tell we have a real surplus of it just waiting to be obtained but somewhere along the line it's being ignored. I would convert my car to NG if the costs wasn't to high and I doubt it is and the fuel was made available around the area. I don't travel anymore so if I could get it locally it's all I would need.
