A real shootout now
by Schmutzie

Karl Rove said so.

I guess I have to admit that I like her on a personal level, she could be one of my hockey mom sisters if she didn't have that Frances McDormand/Officer Margie from Fargo twang. Sarah Palin is a dynamic speaker, and is already one of my favorite republicans. A very fresh face for a very old team.

But I actually listened to what she had to say, and that I don't like quite so much. I kept waiting for the part where the economy and the Supreme Court were covered. How about a little hint on foreign policy positions? Perhaps a few sentences on what a veepee does. The speech was just more republican talking points, and I'm not sure that's going to get it done.

Let's see how President McCain does tonight. Maybe he'll explain why we want 4 or 8 more years of what we've just lived through.

Looked forward to checking in on the fray this morning to gauge reactions.

Just as I expected. The Republicans have found their messiah.

So that I have this straight.....A relatively unknown candidate gives a strong speech that's long on rhetoric and short on specifics. The candidate appeals strongly to the base constituency, for reasons that they can't quite put their fingers on. The remaining questions about the candidate deal with overall readiness to handle an enormous job, the candidate's ability to help get legislation passed, as well as the candidate's ability to deal with a potential international crisis. The candidate is very short on experience but is extremely charismatic when giving a speech.

Where have I heard that before?

One convention speech and this person is clearly suited to be the vice president of the US? I don't know about that, but she certainly is a good speaker, and we all know that some people just swoon when they hear a good speech.

Jesus Christ, at least I waited for a few months for assuming the mantle of Obama "bot."

Has anyone claimed dibbs on the term Palin-drone yet?

Urquhart, Palin Drone
by Urquhart
Short on specifics? Maybe. Though she did come through with some solid stuff on energy, which Obama signally failed to do. And it was a convention speech, introducing Sarah Palin and ripping Barack Obama several new ones.
You know, you're about right.

Except for the part about calling McCain "President McCain". .....and the part about the enormous job of being a VP. Quayle did it. She's better than Quayle. She's probably not as bright as Gore, but I've got to say my first impression is that she's a much more likeable person, and probably unwilling to do nothing in the position like Gore did. I really doubt she "knows" foreign policy. But heck - Obama too is learning on the job - he doesn't know anything about trade, and that isn't stopping him from blabbing about it. Obama learned much from the primary. As Palin pointed out, his Mid East policy evolved (I'm being kind here) on a week by week basis, depending on where he was. He's learning - and he's a relatively quick study. The days where the President is going to be omniscient on all matters is likely over. Bill Clinton came close to this. But Reagan, two Bush's, Carter suggest the model now is to surround yourself with a team. And that team has to have expertise and credibility, and, hopefully, integrity. She is a good speaker - and that speaks well of her. Even if she is religious. Even if she's against gay marriage. Even if she's against abortion. She can't get my vote. But she clearly presents a bigger challenge than it seems many anticipated. Deeply surprised at the negative reaction to her from a few. This is how Obama can still succeed. He needs people like Biden. He'll need more Biden's. The fact that he needs these people is contra his message about "change".
pretty much agree,
by Camille Claudel
but I like disagreeing - her stuff on energy really isn't all that solid. It sounds nice, but it's fluff. America's energy dependancy isn't going to change even with Alaska drilling and massive pipelines.....

A nice speech, but I'm an Obama supporter, so I'm used to those. Gotta be a real shot in the arm for the republicans though. I wonder if McCain's speech tonight will work as well as Palin's. Might be a bit of a letdown.

Heard Monkey Boy Bagala complaining about the attack nature of all the speeches last night. How funny is that? I have hated that little bastard for 15 years, and I love when he looks scared. Hypocritical little turd.

If it's okay for Biden to do attack dog, it's okay for Palin too.

Looking forward to the debates.

I know I'm not supposed to talk about this...

...and, you know, there was no way I was going to like her anyway because of the politics....but....that voice! Jesus Christ! Couldn't you Republicans get Fran Drescher or Alex Borstein?
Does It Play in Fargo?

Upper midwest is big this year.

Noy supposed to talk about it?

Fuck that Arch.

Not supposed to talk about Obama's ears, Biden's hair-plugs, and McCain's amazingly lifelike appearance either....

It's there, and we'll be hearing that voice for the next 2 months.

"Not so sure I agree with yer police work dare Lou. The DLR might mean it's a stolen car. Ya know....dealer plates?"

"Yahhh....you could be right about dat Margie."

Well, there you go.
by Archaeopteryx
She'll put you over the top in the Dakotas. I'm just pretty sure that every good redneck Southern boy was listening to that and saying "Shee-yit, that's gonna be tough to listen to for the next eight years."
Palin Power ... FLAWLESS. Fearless.

And as you might have noticed last night, those Repub. WOMEN were mega-energized. She is hugely inspiring and motivating -- the OB-BOTS better keep a close, serious eye on the Independent voters after this convention, and in particular, on the millions of women voters they so clearly (intentionally? one wonders) offended during the primaries.

Btw, I thought she/they handled the family issue of the pregnancy & engagement, etc. very well -- you? (I do wish she had introduced the fiance, though.) Bristol absolutely shone & what guts & courage THAT took, under the unfortunate circumstances. All the Dem/Lib so-called "feminists" who were dumping on Gov. Palin (for ex., Barbara Walters, yesterday, for just one) for exposing "her poor, vulnerable child"/daughter to such harsh media scrutiny have been made to look like total fools. I love it. Clearly, Alaska grows its women strong, tough, capable, competent and proud. And clearly, Mama Sarah and Daddy Todd were the best judges, thank you very much, of just how much their daughter can and could handle.

yeah, she nailed down those three electoral votes. nice work
by StandardDeviation

I thought of Frances McDormand, too.
by Archaeopteryx
Do people in Alaska all sound like they're from Minnesota? Or actually, like stereotyped characatures of Yoopers? Imagine her doing the sports--oh, the humanity!
Really?
by Archaeopteryx
You didn't think she was using her Down's baby as a prop? I'm serious--I can't judge. With everything I know about her, there was nothing she was going to do that I was going to like, so I wondered how that played with everyone else. "Hey, look at my Down's baby!"
"Eight years," Freudian slip? :-)
by SpeakerNancy

And fyi, I happen to know quite a few r-n Southern "boys" mahseff, Arch. Know what I think they're saying?

"DAY-yum, that is one fine-lookin', smart, tough woman, ah think ah maght jess vote fer this one. Good with a gun, too."

Really, if you BOTS could just cut out the (elitist) regional condescension for just ONE DAY, it would be so refreshing, truly. (And yes, I KNOW, I know, you live in Arkansas, so it's OK for you to talk that way. Well, it's not, it's offensive.)

And not all my Suthrun friends are r-n, either. I bet lots of them end up supporting her & Big John.

Oh man.

Great. 4 more years with a retard in The White House. (Come on. Everybody's thinking it. I'm the only one with the guts to say it out loud. Deal.) Anyways...
