Oh Lord. John McCain is going to be president, isn't he?

We were so close to getting some real change. And now, because of a potent combination of public pity, Palin's 'good looks', and a speech that plays on our basest natures and fears, we're going to have another Republican president. Another four years of the same xenophobic policies, growing gaps between rich and poor, screwed up health-care systems, isolationist and/or incomprehensible foreign policy and embarassing international gaffes. For crying out loud -Mitt Romney endorsed them. The speech was sarcastic, mean-spirited, small-minded and close-minded. And they loved it. And now we're going to have a rush to the polls to elect this pair and so many who live in this country who desperately need a new way of thinking in the White House are going to be screwed over once again. I could just weep.

Well, that happens when you choose an empty suit like Obama to represent the Democratic party. We needed a fighter, and you chose a wimp.

Relax -- it is hardly over. Democrats need to work and organize and get out their vote. We don't know yet how Palin will play. I too was dismayed by her speech and by the early favorable coverage it has gotten... But seriously now, throwing ones hands up like that hardly helps to elect the better man. On the stump and in the debates, it seems to me, Obama and Biden now need to turn the attention firmly and relentlessly to substance. That's the only response to the sarcasm and baiting and utterly hollow rah-rah rhetoric of the Palin speech.

Hillary wiped the floor with Obama in the debates. What do you think Palin is going to do with the one? Why do you think Obama has been systematically avoiding debates? You have too much faith in him. He is just a wimp.

no one has won or lost yet, it's going to be close and every vote counts. I've been told repeatedly from Obama supporters that we have 'turned a page' and that Obama represents a new 'change' in how presidents are going to be elected, with the heavy aide of indies, and greenies, and internet-junkie/bloggers, and the like. I was not sure when they told me this, and I'm still not sure. As a Hillary Supporter, I thought and still think that she could have beaten McCain in the 'old way', but was denied the chance. I am still not sure if Obama can beat McCain in the 'old way', so dems need to hope for the sake of the country that the new indie text-often face book NPR/Whole Foods/arugala/change we can people were right all along. (OBAMA IS BETTER ON THE ISSUES). We will see

Then get to work. Go to Obama's website and get involved. Phone bank, talk to neighbors, write letters to the editor, donate. There are plenty of ways to get out the truth about McCain and Palin, but not if you sit on your hands.

Anticorp,
You don't get it, do you? It is not us. It is not the Democrats, who will make Obama the next President of the USA. It is the OTHER voters, those who do not belong to the liberal side of the country that will give him the votes to defeat McCain. The problem then is Obama. He has to close the deal by himself, and he can't. The other voters perceive him as just a talker.

Hey Lassie, not all Democrats are whinning because we already knew this was going to happen. The ones who are whinning are the Obama supporters who had drunk so much Kool Aid that they literally thought that they could easily change the world.

I'm not a democrat now, nor have I ever been. What I "get" is that with too many sound bites and not enough accurate info, the American people can make bad choices. How else can one explain the re-election of the worst president in US history? So, what does one do? Get out the truth to voters everywhere, any way you can.

There is strong evidence that Kerry was cheated as well, just substitute Diabold and a black State politician w/Klan ties (yes, believe it or not) and Ohio, for FLA, their State Sctry. of State, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Same intentional supression of votes, same institutional and pre-medititated voter fraud, same public-forbidden dark-room anti-democracy result. So, go easy on blaming the victim--the U.S. people. They weren't the ones making bad choices. That choice--like the U.S. occupation of Iraq, was made FOR us, with a stern middle finger shoved in our faces if we disagreed. We've been jobbed...(hope you still HAVE a job and a house)...

anticorp,
Bush was elected twice becaue the majority of the American people do not have the educational level to vote rationally. They are easily persuaded with emotional messages. So until most of the population become much better educated, elections are going to be won not by discussin policy but by using persuasive emotional messages. Therefore we had to have chosen a candidate that could relate to the majority of Americans and not an alien like Obama, who usually looks, sounds and behaves emotionlessly.

You're right candrew. It's just so frustrating. But, now we have to throw our weight behind Obama. As much as I like him as a person, I actually would have liked to have seen Edwards win the nomination (in spite of more recent revelations of infidelity) - but I think Obama has a good team behind him and fresh vision for the country - something it desperately needs. I guess all this Palin-frenzy just means that we've got to work harder to get the change we want to see.

A fresh vision and a good team do not win elections. Good candidates win elections. Candidates who can fight, debate, persuade, relate to others, etc. Obama can't. Sorry.
