I watched Palin deliver her speech last night. She read very well from the prompter. Her media experience as a sports reporter raised her comfort level at the podium and in the limeligh. Obviously her handlers had prepared her very well. But I think that Palin is a bully. Her political career in Alaska includes firing people who do not agree with her i.e the librarian who would not remove certain books. She has attacked the media for daring to question her qualifications and looking into her personal history. She is self-centred and ambitious and willing to lie to get elected. Her attacks on Barak Obama were false. Contrary to what she said, Obama has authored major legislation in the Illinois and federal Senates which are well documented on other websites. Worse, in a swaggering tone, she discounted Obama's work as a community organizer claiming that this position didn't involve any responsibilities. I think that Palin and her red-neck Republican buddies have no clue what a community organizer does. That's because Obama helped poor Blacks on the South Side of Chicago, and Palin and her friends aren't interested in helping the poor, the disenfranchised, people of colour, except for her baby who has Down's syndrome! There is no compassion coming from Palin and this Republican crowd. They claim to be Christian, yet are not capable emotionally of putting themselves into another person's shoes. Moreoever, as described in this piece, her father had no compunction of moving to Alaska and shooting the wild game there for sport: wild mountain goats? walruses? He's a hard-assed guy who raised a hard-assed family, and that's his choice. Thankfully, he did it far removed from mainstream American life so his actions would have little effect on the innocent. But Palin who is a product of this household and its values is running for the VP of the US and, if elected, what she does or doesn't do could seriously affect innocent people in the US and around the world. If she honestly believes that having run a village of 7000 as mayor or running Alaska as governor prepares her for 2nd highest office in the land, then she is truly grandiose and doubly dangerous. If she believes that killing her first rabbit at aged 10 has prepared her to deal with the likes of Putin, Abedinijad, Hamas and Al Qaeda, then she is deluded. Send this Hockey Mom back to where she came from!
