Saletan's "Believe It or Not"
by run75441

Moira:

Come on, Bill has been silly when it comes to most things. He was completely in error when it came to LA and fast food restaurants. His topics are meant to draw people with little fact.

All we need is a hawker in front with acane to sell the show regardless of content. I am sure you are aware of Ripley?

Hi run - I'm always interested to hear what you have to say.

Did you see this Fray post by Saletan?

- the whole thread is interesting, but in this entry he gives his thinking on what he's doing.

Moira:

I think Texvol comes the losest to what I am pointing out with this statement:

"Making people think is an admirable goal, and I never meant to suggest otherwise. But making them think about whether one or more real women - women whom you actually name! - has had a secret abortion is of dubious value, particularly when the methodology you employ to create that inference is itself highly suspect. That strikes me more as an effort at sensationalism than provocation."

I do not often take a part in William's articles as I see more of the sensationism in his words than the provocation, hence the "Ripley" comment. Unless, of course, he wanders into an area of my experise such as Urban Planning or Economics. With his departure from his old hangout ("Chatterbox?"), I sense a shedding of skin to emerge as something else. I am not so sure it was for the better.

I do appreciate your return to my post. Thank you
