If Palin were a Democrat
by opus512
+1 Reply

She'd be hailed as a hero and lionized by the very people that are now questioning her fitness as a mother and woman.

What rubs them raw is that a conservative woman ws able to achieve their liberal fominist dream.

That's small, people.

This post is ridiculous. If Palin were a Democrat she would be absolutely vilified by the right as a bad mother. And I can assure you, as a liberal "feminist", Palin has in no way achieved any dream of mine...unless my dream were to be a gross political ploy to keep a tired, fading political party in power. It's the same old story - a woman being used by the men to get what they want. That's what she represents to me.

she would have been kicked out of her church and would have never been considered for any political office due to her stupid views, poor education and lack of morals.

total BS
by jazzguitarman

Someone that is NOT pro-choice, wishes to restrict access to birth control and beleives ID should be taught in public school science classes would NOT be a hero to any Dem.

Being a working mom doesn't make one a hero. Just a women in today's America.

jazzguitarman,

Thank you for being honest at least. Democrats on the whole, are limited by their Party platform. Your view of what would make Palin a "hero" to Democrats is exactly on point. However, I do get tired of the pretense from others in your party. Too many Democrats pretend that female candidates are somehow relevant simply because of their gender. In reality, it's never been a gender or race thing. It's always been a worldview issue on both sides.

sorry I'm not a Dem

I'm an independent but at this stage I'm planning on voting for Obama \ Biden over McCain \ Palin (of course the debates could change my POV).

Anyhow I agree with you that Dems tend to over 'sell' gender and race as if those make someone more qualified by definition. But the GOP \ Right does the same with religion. e.g. someone that is more religious is just a better person \ candidate by definition. As we have found out religious people are just as 'bad' as non-religious (e.g. cheat on their spouses, pay for sex, have gay lovers, gamble, etc...)

This is true, but it says more about the democrats than about any greater injustice. The Democrats wouldn't fight for her the way the Republicans have. It's like Bill Clinton used to say, about "Strong and Wrong" vs. "Right and Weak."
Re: If Palin were a Democrat

Gotta call bs again. I'm amazed at how the right has overnight transformed into some sort of last bastion of women's rights. Astounding. The Republicans are fighting to stay in power, even though it means ignoring their own moral "values" they've loudly declared ad nauseum for years. It's sickening. This woman is being "fought" for is a political ruse, nothing more. No one can be intellectually honest and argue that this woman has any sort of background or experience that would lead one to believe she is capable of being president of the US (and that is a huge factor given McCain's age). That's why anyone who asks a reasonable question about her qualifications, her stances on issues, her flip-flopping, etc. etc, is met with a "THAT'S SEXIST" rap. It's a show. I personally believe the majority of the US electorate is a whole lot smarter than the Republican's are giving them credit for. You have to give the hardliners credit though...they get the word from the top and they'll toe the line (no matter how illogical). Reminds me of lemmings, actually. And to think there was a time when I was a supporter of McCain...2000 seems so long ago.

I agree with Texas. That a candidate like McCain who voted AGAINST equal pay for equal work is now supposed to be some sort of defender of the rights of women just because he he snagged an underqualified woman as his VP is absurd.
Exactly! the hypocrisy of the ...
by NObama
Obama-jerks can be smelled miles away, perhaps even in outer space. I hope Palin rocks the house in St. Paul, tonight.
Re: Exactly! the hypocrisy of the ...
by FBH
Actually, whether or not Palin "rocks the house tonight" is irrelevant. What we are doing here on the Fray, and what the media is doing, and what the Dems and the GOP are doing right now is killing time until November. 99% of the voting public already know who they're voting for. We just haven't finished spending enormous amounts of money on advertising and pretense yet. Elections are good as far as they go. But what we're doing right now is NOT good. Not in any way...
Re: Exactly! the hypocrisy of the ...

Killing time until November -- interesting take on it. Do you really think that 99% of the electorate has made up its mind, though?
The ads -- the ADS -- the worst! It's only 9/3 and we are tired of them already. So awful, negative, hate-filled and worst of all, inaccurate.

If she were a Democrat....

she would not be pro-life.

she would not support teaching creationism in schools.

she would not have banned books from her public library, outraging her local librarians.

she would not believe that humans have nothing to do with global warming

she would not refer to Iraq as "God's war"

she would not oppose teaching sex education in schools for teenagers, despite research and the experience of her family, which show that teenagers do have sex (no matter what adults hope) and need to be taught how to protect themselves

she would not believe that drilling is the most important solution to our energy crisis.

Those are just a few of the things that she would NOT do if she were a Democrat!!

And I'm amazed at how the left has become the right in it's blatantly sexist attacks on Palin.

She's successful, married her high school sweetheart, and has an exciting career, all with managing a household and mothering five children, and is now making history as one of the major parties first woman VP candidate ever.

This whole election has turned everyone on their heads. You don't get to talk about how the GOP has flipped without acknowledging how the Democrats have flipped, too. But of course, in your mind, there is no flip, is there?

What, there are NO pro life Democrats? That's funny, because we have a number of them holding office right now in Michigan.

Everything you listed off is blatantly from a biased, partisan angle, but thanks for playing.
