We all Sacrifice for Sarah's Family
by Juneauite

There has been a lot of coverage questioning Palin's ability to juggle her family and career. Those of us that live in Juneau, though, have already seen that Sarah's "balance" can come at a high price....

Essentially, Gov. Palin has refused to move from Wasilla to Alaska's Capital City after her election. Although she promised to "keep the Juneau as the Star on Alaska's map" during the campaign for Governor, it was a different story once she was elected. Stating that it was difficult to relocate her family, Sarah became the first Governor ever to not move to town. She stayed in Wasilla--a town that is about 700 miles from Juneau--and set up a sort of secondary Governor's Office in nearby Anchorage. She has even encouraged her cabinet-level officials to live in Anchorage instead of moving to the Capital. During some of the Special Legislative Sessions held here last year (which had to be held at the Legislative Chambers at the Capitol) Sarah refused to even fly to town for the week. The firing of the Governor's Chef alluded to in the article has less to do with Sarah wanting to do her own cooking than to the fact that she doesn't live in the Governor's House at all.

In addition to the obvious difficulties this poses for the Legislature, all of this has led to a great deal of economic insecurity in town. There is a general feeling here that Sarah is more than willing to sacrifice the financial health of the entire southeast portion of the state in order to ease her own family situation.

overall reform plan for the state. You read like someone who hates Sarah Palin. That's okay. It's your right to hate her. But it's our right to question just why you really hate her. Not that I want to pry into your secrets.

At least you have plenty of company on the supposedly feminist board, XX-Factor, as two thirds of the posters also joyously HATE Sarah Palin . . . each, of course, for her own private little reasons.

The only thing I judge her on as a parent is putting her daughter in the media spotlight knowing she was pregnant. Of course the media would talk about it. She said herself she did not tell her kids about the VP slot until they were flying down for the announcement. So her daughter had no say in the matter. Now they are dragging the young father down to the convention. So now the feeding frenzy will be keep going to capture pictures of him. That is sad and no way to treat a child.

wow, Palin refused to move to the state capitol, and instead chose to telecommute. Would she do that on the slight chance she became VP? Stay in AK, and not move to DC? Here in CA, at least Schwarzenegger stays in a hotel in Sacramento during the week so he can be in the capitol, and travels back to his home in LA on the weekends.

Does the governor of Alaska serve the people there, or the other way around?

There's a job description for governor, if her family situation doesn't allow her to meet the needs of the state and the position's responsibilities, she shouldn't take the job. I realize she might be incrdibly qualified, but I find it hard to believe there is absolutely nobody else who can run that state.

After all the lies you told about Michells Obama you have some nerve telling anyone else to leave Palin's family members alone.

i never said anything about her except that she looks like zira.

"why don't you worry about your family and let her worry about her family?"

she doesn't seem to be worrying much about her family. If she did, she never would have accepted the nomination.

and if she has to spend too much time "worrying" about her family, she won't have enough time to devote to the job.

Hey Kgsbca,

Don't worry Irving is a troll paid for by the RNC or someone to try to speak for them on Slate. He now finds himself in a very hard position to try to defend this so he has to attack anyone stating the obvious. It is just best to pitty him.

Poor Irving.

not at all, but it would be nice for the governor to actually spend some time in the state capitol instead of dictating that the rest of the legislature kowtow to her for her personal choices.

isn't that what Louis XIV did when he corralled his court in Versailles?

isn't that up to the people of alaska to decide? they seem to like her and she has an 80% approval rating which is 70 points higher than the democrat congress.
