Sarah Palin: Million Dollar Baby

It is so typical of the establishment and the media to write off a newcomer to the political scene announcing her candidacy dead before it even gets off the ground.

The whole experience narrative was false, given that the man at the TOP of the Democratic Party's ticket is the one with the alarmingly thin resume and seems to have ordered his life to achieve nothing less than the Presidency and has come so far without leaving so much as a trail of bread crumbs for a record.

Sarah Palin has a lifetime of agitating and working on behalf of the little guy against entrenched interests. That she did it in the supposedly small stage of Alaska should not denigrate her accomplishments. She has a record as a reformer and as a maverick of her own that will stand up to scrutiny, if she is allowed the chance to show case her credentials.

The media and McCain's enemies on the left have tried character assassination to destroy her. Troopergate is a minor scandal, if that, and the facts, when they will out, should clearly demonstrate that her actions were appropriate and in the best interests of her state. By all accounts this brother-in-law of hers was a monster and needed to be removed from his job. That this troopers misdeeds went ignored should be the story, not her efforts to clean house.

Worse has been the effort by some of leading lights of the left – Rachel Madow and Andrew Sullivan in particular – to breathe life into a scurrilous conspiracy theory concerning the parentage of Palin’s youngest child, a five-month old infant inflicted with Down’s syndrome. The eagerness of the liberal blogosphere to pick up on this story and try and demonize Palin was telling in that it showed how panicked the left is by McCain’s outside the box pick.

Now we know that Palin’s 17 year old daughter is pregnant and will carry her baby to term, the father being her high school sweetheart, himself an 18 year old. That their lives will be forever turned upside down by the big event that is about to befall them should not diminish in away from Palin’s credentials and leadership characteristics. Indeed her facing problems that are faced by ordinary Americans everyday makes her acutely in touch with realities in a way that other politicians are not.

Palin’s freshness is to be cherished and she needs to be given the chance to prove her credentials to the people before she is destroyed by innuendo and smears.

I think we will see that after today she will get that chance. She is the “million dollar baby” in this race and attention must be paid.

Lifetime of experience? Do you mean her time on the city council, or as a sportscaster, or a beauty queen?

The brother-in-law is by all acounts a monster? Who's accounts? I've seen none.

Nice of you to rate your own thread too.

I'm still laughing...the Republicans did all they could to destroy Obama with innuendo and smears. What goes around, comes around.

Sounds like she is a lousy mom married to an alcoholic, yep thats a great choice. Failed to teach your children about the dangers of sex and pregnancy. Well done.

A reformer??

Not so much.

She also happens to be breathtakingly ignorant of science.

Some of us actually think that matters.

How very typical. McCain takes orders from "High Command" and vets his candidate with the carefulness of Mr. Magoo striding over a cliff. Palin's executive leadership creds extend to a state with more wildlife than people, and I'm not describing the elk and moose, although I'll get to that later. The population of Alaska is about on par with Rhode Island, so tallying up oil revenue checks, pareceling pork, (which McLame is purported to despise, while simultaneously loving lobbyists), and being a glorified game warden seems to be her only talents. Aside from a family life with more drama than the Clintons ever thought about, the only thing she seems to be exective of, is the aforementioned elk and moose.

Nothing quite like a little thoughtful, informed criticism.

Good thing you don't perpetuate self-serving ignorant stereotypes like those hateful conservatives.

Of course the critics below are part of smear and innuendo amchine being run buy the left out of fear that Palin's candidacy is the vehicle by which obama will be denied his win.

She brings history and change to the ticket and is true Washigton outsider who had the courage to take on defeat the entrenched interests of the Republican machine within her stare.

Obama on the other hand remains the tool of the Daily Kos and the Daley Machine.

Sarah Palin has the kind of fresh appeal that you all only wish your ticket had. She may have a ruff day or so in them media, but you can ocunt on her to bounce back big time

You must just be so proud.

Are you suggesting the Daily Ko's put a baby up in this teenage chick and then reported on it? Are you idiot enough to whine about a smear machine because yours seems to be broken? Progressives did'nt invent this insane "High Chrisitan Cracker" scenario. Don't start crying because white supremacy is out of style.

Sarah Palin has no idea how to win a war.

She has never been to Iraq, or to Afghanistan, or even to Europe.

Her own son in Iraq is probably terrified that she might become commander-in-chief. "Mom, seriously, you don't know what the fuck you're doing and people are going to get killed. Just stop."

She did great last night, didn't she?

If she was trying to be a stand-up comic, then yeah I'd say she did ok. Her jokes were well-written and her delivery was on the ball.

Unfortunately, her policies are still a step in the wrong direction for America and she is still far from qualified to run this country. It's obvious that her biggest selling point is her gender; if she were male she would not be selected over Romney or even Ron Paul.

Her popularity will fade very quickly as people continue to question her competence and if elected, she will disappoint even the most stalwart Republicans.
