Verbal Tic
by timezoned

that's the real point here.

Others like Obama have used the same phrase as you point out, it's the oddly stilted, constant, hiccupy nature of the way McCain uses it that's got everyone talking about it, and you writing an article about it.

It's an example, if you'll forgive me getting a little technical here, of what linguists call "creepy".

McCain, despite all myths to the contrary, is simply the worst candidate I've ever seen in terms of personality and presentation and yes, I saw Bob Dole. Okay Bob Dole was just as bad. Bob Dole would probably agree about Bob Dole.

Better "My Friends" than the uh...uh...uh..umm..uh oratory and the "Tip head Sideways Like a Golden Retriever to Feign Profound Thoughtfulness" tic of Obama?

I'll take the occasional "um, uh" if it means I never have to see McCain's creepy little half-smile, like he's putting one over on everybody listening to his thin delivery and lackluster rhetoric.

More importantly, I'll take a good president over a bad one any day.
