Palin - Is This Really the Best & Brightest?
by JacklynD

Did Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Elizabeth Dole, Olympia Snow and Susan Collins all turn down the Vice Presidential nomination?

Vice President of the United States is a position held by Dick Cheney, Al Gore, George Bush senior, Lyndon Baines Johnson, etc. Agree or disagree with any of them, I think we can all agree they all possess certain breadth of experience, vision and power. Senator John McCain is offering us a women who believes in creationism and abstinence only birth control, clearly put forth as an attempt to attract women voters.

Is this realy the best the Republicans have to offer the American people in a time of crisis? We need leadership in economic issues, job creation, terrorism, and a visionary approach to rebuilding our educational system.

Sarah Palin is a woman who leads a state with 607,000 people, was mayor of a town of 6,000, her husband's claim to fame is winning snow machine races. She has a 4-month old special needs baby and a pregnant daughter.
There are Los Angeles high schools with more than 5,000 students in them.

Our country is crying out for healing, change and visionary leadership. Again, is this really the best and brightest?

Apparently, for the "base" of the Republican party she is. That is sad and to be frank profoundly depressing. 38 million Americans watched Obama speak. I hope many of them saw a thoughtful, charasmatic, presidential figure who exudes the will and capacity to heal this nation. But given this nation's recent chioce of leaders, it remains a faint hope indeed.

And what did Barack Obama give us? A guy that's been in Washington for 35 yrs. So much for "change and visionary leadership".

As I said, a faint hope.
The Governor of Alaska is the Commander in Chief
by HellFire

of 116 Army National Guard Armories, present in 88 Communities in the State of Alaska.

The Governor of Alaksa is also the Commander in Chief of the Alaksa Air National Guard, made up of the 176th Wing, and the 168th Air Refueling Wing.

Senator Obama is currently Commander in Chief of nothing, as a matter of fact, Senator Obama has never been Commander in Chief of anything his entire life.

Governor Palin also has more Executive Experience than Senator Obama.

Three words: Swap land and florida.

You will notice that while I put 2 words in the Subject Bar, I only typed 2 words in my message.

While you on the other hand Posted that you were going to type 3 words, but instead put 4 words.

I just wanted to point that out to you.

There is no need to thank me.

I agree with the original poster. This VP selection should concern potential McCain voters for two reasons:

1) McCain's selection reflects poor judgement. He either did not do his homework, or he made a bad choice. Either way, are these the kind of appointments we should expect from a President McCain?

2) A president Palin is a truly frightening thought.
Palin/McCain 08?

@ Hellfire:

Senator Obama McCain is currently Commander in Chief of nothing, as a matter of fact, Senator Obama McCain has never been Commander in Chief of anything his entire life.

Governor Palin also has more Executive Experience than Senator Obama McCain.

So, by your "logic", Sarah Palin should be at the top of the Republican ticket. Checkmate.

Senator McCain is also a War Hero
by HellFire

A Retired Naval Captain, who has not only Commanded in War but also in Peace.

How many Medals does Obama have again?

How about Biden? He must have a whole bunch, he is from that age group.... oh, wait, he is a Draft Dodger.

Oh, and here you go Liberal.......

Gov. Palin is CinC of 116 Army National Guard Armories

That's right, Mr. Dickerson, Governor Palin is Commander in Chief of 116 Army National Guard Armories present in 88 Communities in the State of Alaska.

The Governor of Alaska (Sarah Palin) is also the Commander-in-Chief of the 176th Wing, Alaska Air National Guard, out of Kulis Air National Guard Base, as well as Commander-in-Chief of the 168th Air Refueling Wing, Alaska Air National Guard, based at Eielson Air Force Base.

Alaska has Eielson Air Force Base, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Fort Richardson, and Fort Wainwright for the Active Duty Force, which are controlled by the Department of Defense, under the Command of the President of the United States of America.

On to Delaware, Senator Biden's Home State.......

Delaware has one Active Duty Base, Dover Air Force Base, which is controlled by the Department of Defense, under the Command of the President of the United States of America.

The Delaware Army National Guard maintains 15 Armories, and is present in 12 communities, under the direct command of Governor Ruth Ann Minner.

Delaware Air National Guard has the 166th Airlift Wing, operating out of the New Castle County Airport, and the 142d Airlift Squadron, which falls in under the 166th Airlift Wing, which is also, strangly enough, located at New Castle County Airport, which are also under the direct command of Governor Ruth Ann Minner.

Senator Biden is Commander in Chief of none of that, as Senator Biden is Commander in Chief of nothing at all..... Senator Biden has never been Commander in Chief of anything.

On to Illinois, Senator Obama's Home State.....

For the Active Force Illinois has Scott Air Force Base, Rock Island Arsenal, and NTC Great Lakes, which are controlled by the Department of Defense, under the Command of the President of the United States of America.

The Illinois Army National Guard maintains 59 Armories, and is present in 50 communities, and all under the command, conveniently enough, of the Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich.

The Illinois Air National Guard has the 126th Air Refueling Wing, located at Scott Air Force Base. The 182d Airlift Wing, based at the Greater Peoria Regional Airport, the 183d Fighter Wing, out of the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, the 217th Engineering Installation Squadron, and the 264th Combat Communications Squadron, which are also under the command of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Senator Obama is Commander in Chief of none of that, as Senator Obama is Commander in Chief of nothing at all..... Senator Obama has never been Commander in Chief of anything.

Last but not least, Arizona, Senator McCain's home State....

For the Active Force Arizona has Luke Air Force Base, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Yuma Air Station, Yuma Proving Ground, and Fort Huachuca, which are controlled by the Department of Defense, under the Command of the President of the United States of America.

The Arizona Army National Guard maintains 45 Armories, and is present in 22 communities.

The Arizona Air National Guard is made up of the 162d Fighter Wing, located at Tucson International Airport, and the 161st Air Refueling Wing, out of Sky Harbor International Airport, and the 107th Air Control Squadron.

While Senator McCain is Commander in Chief of none of that, Senator McCain is a Retired Naval Captian, Senator McCain is a Combat Veteran and has Commanded other U.S. Military Personnel in time of War and in time of Peace.

The United States Constitution clearly states in Article II, Section 2, that the President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States.

I just wanted to help you out, Mr. Dickerson, just in case you wanted to write another Article about the qualifications of different people running for National Office in the United States of America at the present time.

There is no need to thank me..... I'm gald to do it.

HellFire.

Re: Senator McCain is also a War Hero
by garkon38
Hellfire, you are SUCH a douche. Does it make your legs go all trembly to write "commander in chief" over and over like it means something? You're honestly pretending to yourself (cause everyone else is just giggling into their sleeves) that because Alaska has national guard units that this somehow qualifies as military experience for its' GOVERNOR? Go check out the old Monty Python "Pet shop/Parrot" routine sometime. And buy yourself a sense of humor or at least irony, before posting this kind of nonsense.

There is nothing wrong with McBush's judgement. The ancient, adulterous goat was looking for someone that he could try to sleep with. Afterall, he has a track record of dumping his first wife to pursue a pill popping Beer Heiress that was half his age. Too bad the senile Warmonger won't score with his Alaskan Bimbo. Palin is toast and will be bidding farewell later today, to "spend more time" with her White Trash family. But hey, McBush was a POW...

Due to the strong leadership of Commander Palin, Alaska has not been invaded by Russia or overrun by polar bears in the last 18 months.

Seriously, this is what passes for your argument?

Re: Palin - Is This Really the Best & Brightest?
by opus512

We're crying out for change and vision so Obama picked a 35 year Washington insider to bring about that visionary change?

Really?

And what level of experience, vision and power did Dan Quayle bring to the table?

If Palin were a Democreat and Obama had picked her, you'd be defending everything about her that you're now condemning.

No, what really pisses you off about the whole thing is how close McCain stayed to his ideals and how far away Obama got from his with their respective VP picks.

Re: Palin - Is This Really the Best & Brightest?
by dgl

Dan Quayle had actually served in Congress for years.

Palin fits McCain's "ideals?" Only in the sense that she's a right-winger. The "reformer" claim has already been debunked.

On the contrary, McCain's been hammering away on Obama's inexperience for months, claims to put "country first," and then chooses a running mate w/ not even an opinion about foreign policy, and who until 18 months ago was the mayor of Wasilla, pop. 9000.
