The rich just don't get it.

The fact that John McCain doesn't know how many houses he owns (which means how rich he is) shows his distance from the common man. It's no different from Phil Graham calling the American people "whiners."

I've read articles that describe the lifestyles of Washington politicians and the lobbyists that woo them. Every day of the week they enjoy $100 meals at the best restaurants available. They sleep in the best condominiums, play golf on the best courses... etc. etc. Compare this lifestyle to the average guy (who may or may not have a job) who has to decide whether to indulge and spend $20 at the Olive Garden on Saturday night. Or the mom who wants to buy her kids some new shoes but can't quite include them in her budget this week.

How can such men as McCain and Graham understand the daily concerns of the common people? How can they bridge the gap? They probably can't and it's obvious they are not trying anyway. Instead they just want the lowly peons to shut up and stop questioning them.

The wealthy conservative elite simply don't understand or care about how most people live. They only care about amassing more wealth and staying in power, thus they support McCain and Graham. "I want mine, everyone else can go to hell" seems to be the Republican motto these days.

I can only hope that most rich conservatives are not as callous as the typical Washington politician.

Tell us all about your charitable endeavrors doughdee222. Hitch is right, it's the same old shit every four years. The Dems pander to the sick, lame, and the lazy for votes every election and once in office they don't give a big rat's ass about anyone or anything but getting their asses reelected. Anyone that thinks politicians care about the general welfare of the citizenry, regardless of which party they represent, has their head up their ass. A politician in general ranks about two notches below a child molester on the ladder of respectability.

Senator and Mrs. Obama pulled in nearly $4,000,000.00 last year.

So what your saying is that Presidential candidate Barack Obama doesn't 'get it'.

democrats created the middle class out of the sea of human debris (if not created, at least expended and) lorded over by the robber barns and super rich during the first gilded age (we are in the second). this transformed this nation and led to the very period many conservatives look back upon fondly (i.e the america of leave it to beaver and the three martini lunch) of course conservatives continue to search for ways to undermine these programs gains driven by a belief in a society of princes and paupers, (though implicitly acknowledging the popularity of many of the programs like social sucurity by not taking them on for fear of a backlash even from within the less affluent segments of their ranks). i guess there is no problem equating the relationship between conservatives and democrats on the issue of class mobility and opportuity creation if you are not being graded. anything goes. even though the democrats have implemented some misguided programs with 'unintended or unforseen consequences', there is a world of difference between trying and getting it right and wrong occasionally versus not giving a rats ass and demonizing the unfortunate even as policies are pursued that further burn whatever ladders they may employ in self advancement.

The difference is there was never a time in John McCains life when he wanted for anything. Not so with Obama who was born the son of a single mother who subsisted for a time on food stamps and still put himself through school. That's why he "gets it".

Please. Obama didn't grow up in the ghetto, and he never experienced poverty. He didn't work in a factory, he went to Harvard Law School. John Kerry is rich. Al Gore is rich. Hillary Clinton is rich. They are all rich. If you think Obama is different, you are dim in the extreme.

By the way, there was at time when John McCain wanted something. That would be when he was sitting in a box in Viet Nam in solitary confinement. Where would you rather be - living in a housing project in America on food stamps, or living in a dark cell?

If Obama is elected, he can't get his likeness on our paper currency however, it will be engraved on federal food stamps.

Now where in any post did anyone say Obama grew up in ghetto?

Being raised by a single mom and living on food stamps occasionally certainly doesn't mean he grew up privileged.

John McCain made his choice to follow his Admiral father and grandfather. That makes him military royalty, assured promotions and a place at the table.

Anyone with the grades and student loans can go to Harvard. Hell, our prez went to Harvard. Talk about affirmative action! Another legacy.

Why are so many of you wingnuts frightened by Obama's success? Isn't it the American dream, Horatio Alger and all that? Or have you just grown so accustomed to those born into wealth you can figure out how someone can earn it?

No one gets it.

The two political parties that dominate the government of the United States are run by very rich people. One party panders to the rich and tries to convince everyone else that robbing the working class will actually help them. The other pretends to be concerned about the working class, but it's more like a farmer tending his milk cows.

The rest of us believe what we want to believe and pay little attention to what's actually going on. Shame on us.
