This little saga doesn't star cute and adorable Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. No, the lead characters are erstwhile Republican VP candidate, Sarah Palin, and former Alaska Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan. The fact: Palin,as governor of Alaska, fired Monegan. What's in question is the reason.

She says she canned him over general differences in law enforcement priorities. He says it was because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, as a state trooper. The Republican-controlled Alaska state legislature has authorized an investigation in this matter.

Palin insisted, at first, that no one pressured Monegan to fire Wooten. It has since come to light that not only did several members of her staff try to twist Monegan's arm, but so did her husband, but Palin averred her ignorance of the matter. Now, Monegan has asserted that Palin, herself, repeatedly pressured Monegan to fire Wooten. And he has emails from her to verify his claim. <link>

According to local Anchorage news Mr & Mrs Palin were threatened by their state trooper brother in law after they were threatned by him as an estranged husband to Ms. Palin's sister who objected to the trooper's use of a tazer gun on her/their son.

Her ex-brother-in-law is undoubtedly a miserable excuse for a human being, but he was disciplined according to a judicial process within the state police force. You can argue that he got off lightly, but the US Constitution forbids taking second whacks at folks, no matter how much they might deserve it.
