Sarah Palin, Bush Republican

I'm sort of appalled that Melinda suggested that a lot of women might not care about Palin's corrupt attempt to use her executive power to extract revenge against somebody whom she felt had wronged her family.

Even if the guy is as bad as is rumored, you do not, DO NOT trample the boundaries of the law and use the power of office for personal goals (whether that means extending power, rewarding friends and punishing allies, or whatever). This is Political Ethics 101 stuff. It's also the core of what's wrong with the modern GOP -- see: Abramoff, Jack; Brownie, Heckuva Job; Gonzales, Fredo; Libby, Scooter; and many more.

Oh, and Rachael: She's not anti-earmark.

She favored the Bridge to Nowhere until it became politically expedient to oppose it.

So, let's just pretend everything said is true.

Let me ask you this.

Should a state trooper who used his government issued taser on his 11 year old step son and threatened a senior citizen with physical violence keep his job? (Oh, and these facts ARE NOT in dispute).

Anyway, KEITH OLBERMANN even says there is no political gain to be made here. Give it a rest.

Good for Sarah! There are just too many corrupt bullys on our police forces. Journalists have been reporting them all my life & seldom does anyone do anything about them. You don't hear about the lies they put on their arrest reports, or their actions due to there super ego problems. They give good cops a bad reputation & need to go away.

The way to deal with the corrupt bully is to make sure there are strong accountability laws -- that police are prosecuted within the same legal framework that applies to the rest of us. Counting on special intervention from the executive is not a great idea -- it both encourages another layer of corruption and exceptionalism (the governor is put above the law, because she can boot any law enforcement officer who might object), and leads to a situation where the vast majority of wrongdoers get away with it (because the governor has only so much time to deal with that issue).

And this new troopergate is hardly Palin's first encounter with executive corruption -- she purged Wasilla when she was mayor, removing any city officials she thought might have supporter her opponent, including some people who had worked to get her involved in politics in the first place.

The woman does not understand the appropriate boundaries between campaigning and governing.
