Ahhhh Young Republicans
by don form california
Ummm, I don't know how to say this without being a jerk, but do college age republicans come off like nerds? I'm going to college right now, and I'm an independent, so I'm not bias, honestly. It's hust hard to take them seriously. I look at the young dems as stupid, and the young republicans as dorks. Now the dems aren't stupid because of their positions, but I have not met a SINGLE student who is an ardent democrat who sounds intelligent and doesn't regurgitate party doctrine. But I chuckle at the republicans. Now, the socialists and libertarians... they're hardcore... they're a little bit scary.

You made a really, really good point here. It was in the frist 12 words of your post. You could have stopped right there, and saved a little disk space on the blog server ;)

I have to say, I am a college age democrat and I'm a pretty big nerd. Actually, I always tended to think of college age republicans as brainwashed and the same type of person who regurgitates party doctrine without realizing that the world isn't black and white. But of course I'm probably an idiot that doesn't know what she's talking about. Maybe it's the fact that I'm not from california that makes me smarter.

I was a college aged republican, ready to join the Marines and leave the University of Chicago in the wake of 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan. Then came Iraq. And the lies, and the realization that 9/11 was deeper than the obvious.

Then, I distanced myself from the right or the left, made a positive choice to educate myself, and discovered that in reality, I was a fascist mouthpiece for drivel pushed by the fascist elements of our Govt and Media.

I realized that I was one of the brainwashed masses. Spouting the Right propaganda. And as I distanced myself from a specific ideology in the search of what I truly believe, I saw that many on the Left were doing the same thing.

I was, and still am a Nerd, but Republican and Democrat college kids are all a bunch of smart assed know it alls, who think that because they read a great NYT op ed, or a great Slate article, that they are now wonks on policy capable of speaking real truth to real power.

I seek not to demean those who consider themselves deeply political college students and citizens.

I applaud them.

But sometimes, they need to shut their mouths, listen to someone else, and stop thinking that they are right.

I became a free thinker.

College republicans are prematurely too mature, too grown up. With an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from a major liberal university, I had no choice. I was fully indoctrinated into liberal multiculturalism ideology.

After graduation, as moved away from progressive propaganda to the real world, I began to find that conservatives were healthier, wealthier, happier, better adjusted, more holistic people. When I started my business, I came to appreciate the superiority of the free market and how harmful redistributive taxation really is. When I applied for jobs, I saw with my own eyes how racist Affirmative Action is, when it is used to discriminate against real people.

So a decade later, when I retuned to an MBA program, I returned with real-world knowledge and actual wisdom. I came to understand the fallacy of progressivism, Marxism, socialism, racialism and began to resent the anti-religious bigotry of the left.

I completed my MBA/CPA program as the “outstanding student” while gaining knowledge from classical economists, who relay the world s it actually is, not the way progressives want. I saw the scientific data which proves capitalism superiority is a proven verifiable fact.

I would never to be an immature follower of leftist propaganda ever again. Leftwing ideology was exposed as the failed ideology of economic envy and Bourgeoisie white man burning Marxism. I outgrew the simpleminded moral relativism and began to accept the realism and the factual superiority of capitalism. I grew out of being a democrat. I evolved into a rational thinking American citizen. I became a free thinker.

College Republicans Are Worried.........

Oh piffle. They are worried that if their parents have to pay their share of taxes, to clean up the mess created by their party, they might have to work for a living. Won't be enough in their inheritance to live the good life. Its rough out there and working for a living is unpredictable.

Young student, you will probably out grow liberalism too. The wisdom of Plato, Confucius, Mohammed and other conservative thinkers, will outshine the throbbing neurosis shown by Marx, Nietzsche, Chomsky or Keynes.

Conservative Confucian China was relatively stable for thousands of years. However, progressive Marxism was so vile and destructive that it nearly destroyed a 5,000 year old culture in a few decades.

While Marx’s progressivism is directly responsible for 200 million deaths, Plato’s “Republic” still is the recipe for well functioning society.

No matter how agnostic, atheist or Superior you feel to God, Jewish-Christian-Islamic culture provides stability and comfort.

Will you ever progress if you cannot remember the wisdom of our elders?

Oh piffle, balderdash, fiddle-faddle, hokum, and bunk are nouns a man should never use in polite conversation. For your sake, let’s hope you are gay or female.

There are three basic types of political folks on campuses:

1. College Democrats tend to be mind-numbingly self-serious folks. I'd say they vary between incredibly boring and sophmoric and simply annoying. Think of the guy playing the guitar on the steps in Animal House.

2. Religious conservatives tend to be a bit more open. Think "Mr. Rogers". Not the kind of folks you'd invite to your kegger & boobies bacchanalia, but they'll tend to be fairly outgoing and upbeat. Think of a kinder & gentler version of the Omega House guys from Animal House.

3. Libertarians. These are people for whom casual sex and drugs aren't just fun - they're a political statement. Moreover, if you've got 3 Libertarians you've got 5 different sets of political opinions, so they don't take themselves too seriously. Think of the Delta guys from Animal House.

I could kiss you.

The passage of time has conveniently changed Wilson's statement into an apt irony that you may appreciate.

"The most conservative persons I ever met were college undergraduates. The radicals are the men past middle life".

With age and experience comes wisdom and courage.

Thanks for sharing - you made my day.

The Republicans come off as dorks because they are trying to actually engage ideas. And they can sound very practiced and dogmatic, like they've been chain-reading back issues of National Review. I'm sure they sound a lot more ideological, or at least as having though through their positions more so than the Dems. Good for them; this just mean they are more idea based than emotions-based.

It's easy to be a Dem, especially in college. You don't have to think. In fact, the whole point of being a Democrat is not to think, but to feel. "Like, I really feel the right things, man. I'm for helping the poor, oppressed, indigent, illegal immigrants, girls who've been knocked up. I'm like totally anti-war and anti-conflict of any kind. Give peace a chance regardless of the circumstances. I don't want anyone anywhere to suffer. Oh. And I want 'justice' which means that rich people pay for everything. This all sounds compassionate, right? As long as I look, sound and feel like I'm for the right things, I've done my job." It's about emotions, the right emotions.

The socialists are also about feeling rather than thinking, ultimately, but pride themselves on being Big Thinkers, who are a threat to the System. They're just posing as Radicals. Tear it Down Man! These are typically fat, happy, spoiled little shits whose entire lifestyle is the product of free markets and free people. But instead of seeing freedom as the way to lift others out of poverty and misery, they see capitalism as the problem. You know those teenagers who just constantly roll their eyes at their parents, especially the adolescent girls who just hate their mothers for about two years in high school? The "socialists" in college are stuck here, but they are projecting that entire self-dramatizing angst onto society as a whole. They just want to feel like they're renegades, pretend to be Serious Thinkers and a little dangerous, smoking cigarettes in their Che Guevara shirts outside of the club waiting for that really cutting edge new indie band to start, glowering at all the consumer idiots around them.

EarlyBird – Not only that, progressive “moral relativism” is a simplistic ideology that requires no thought whatsoever because everything becomes relatively anarchistic. Complex thinkers know that many things are found on scales of gray; however, there are real instances of absolute black and white, right and wrong, or good and evil. Liberals understandably cower from moral judgment, so they quote Nietzsche’s “Beyond Good and Evil,” while feeling condescendingly smarter than everyone else, without understanding anything of consequence…

It's just too bad you can't make love to yourself, Narcissus. But your self-congratulatory screed sure makes for some good foreplay, doesn't it?

You should have seen the self-proclaimed "anarchists" running around St Paul, MN this week. Every one a nerd, and I'm sure none were Republicans. They were like a bunch of Napolean Dynamites running around breaking windows and throwing baggies of pee-pee. It was hilarious.

Good thing for them cops were on the scene. There were some local citizens poised to beat the hell out of all of them if the cops would have just looked the other way for a few minutes.

Ummmmmmmmmm,. I was a Libertarian when I went school in

the 70's. I thought that Dems were drugged out (so were

Libertarians, though) and Republicans were dorks with checkered

"med student" shirts. That was in California. It sounds like

college hasn't changed much. PS I'm still a Libertarian, but I'm

a pro-life Libertarian... gotta give the same rights to the little

future Libertarians. I think you will find the oddball Libertarians

are the only way to go.
