I say go with somebody like Sara Palin, she's young, attractive, and has few ties to the neocon wing of the gop that has alienated so many voters. If mccain wants to run as a different kind of republican, that's the sort of person he needs.

have you found mooks "squaw" post yet pookie?

I was only half right
by Smiley1979

Like most people, I knew nothing about her at the time. I didn't know about her ties to the evangewhacko/christofascist crowd, or just how much of an energy industry shill she was.

I'm man enough to admit I'm wrong, and about palin it looks like I was.

rotfl!

been studying up on Palin the last few months eh? LOL

gawd

Just this past week

And all I've found is her positions on silly wedge issues, plus the fact that she does whatever big oil tells her to do. Aside from that, she's got no positions on major issues. My post about her and her speechwriters highlights many of the questions that I can't seem to find any answers to.

Oh bull

Palin reached the Alaska statehouse in 2006 after trouncing incumbent governor Frank Murkowski, patriarch of one of Alaska's powerful political families, in the Republican primary. The former high-school basketball star, beauty queen, commercial fisherman, and mayor of Wasilla (population 8,471) ran on one big issue: Exploiting her state's billions of dollars worth of natural gas on Alaska's terms, not on the oil companies' terms.

Once in office, Palin took an aggressive stance toward the oil companies. Her nickname from high-school basketball, "Sarah Barracuda," was resurrected in the press. Early in her term, she shocked oil lobbyists when she was so bold as to not show up when Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson came to Juneau to meet with her. Palin, after scrapping Murkowski's deal, would not give Big Oil the terms they wanted, yet insisted that the companies still had an obligation under their lease to deliver gas to whatever pipeline Alaska built. She invited the oil companies to place open bids to build a pipeline, but they refused. A bid by TransCanada, North America's largest pipeline builder, was approved by the legislature in August.

But it does take a special person to go from small-town mayor and hockey mom to standing up to the world's biggest corporations.

So what is it that you're saying now?

You're congratulating yourself for thinking you nailed a poster?

Or that Palin is, like you want to believe, above reproach?

Don't act so surprised when people dig into her "past" (the past of the potential VP), and find things, the way you dig into others' past on a message board....eh?

;-)

What about the rest of her history?
by Smiley1979
ANWR? Increased drilling? She's in favor of opening up every inch of Alaska to big oil, you've just found the one exception.
She miscalculated
by Smiley1979
She forgets I'm a liberal, which means I'm smart enough to admit when I'm wrong. And in regards to palin, I was. I didn't realize how much of a rightwing extremist she really was. Now that I'm in possession of more facts, I've changed my position.

You don't have to explain it to me, Smiley. I know you did the work.

I also know it was easier, and more gratifying for Bru to think she "nailed you", by her expert mining through people's posts on here, than to realize there's a lot more to be found about this last minute pick.

Hell, this is what they do.

They all pretend to be so excited about this pick (and I can't count how many of them have posted the right-wing bio made easily accessible to them), but haven't a clue as to the effect this choice will have on dragging their geezer over the line.

I'm not going to bother mining my own posts

But I changed my position on palin long ago, she's just too far right. And if you read the entire post, I just used her as one example to contrast against Powell, I never claimed she was the best choice. She just cherrypicked the part that suited her purpose.

I was wondering why I typed that so I looked it up:

EDITED!

F*ck! And I don't use that word often on here.

That kinda shit sucks. The epitome of dishonesty, especially for someone like Bru that tries so hard to be believable and earnest in her, what we can now call..."supposed convictions".

These cons are all alike. I've had it done to me before too.

By guess who? Eric!

I just don't understand. Why do it?

They always have some crappy, illogical reason why they did.

It usually is some shit like, "context didn't matter".

Well, yeah...duh. It doesn't matter if your mission is to try to tweak the entire position of your adversary.

These people....

I should have checked sooner
by Smiley1979

I should know better than to trust a con to accurately reproduce information.

Check out my top post about "Liberals be afraid," it looks like FMB wants to get all the cons together to develop a strategy for combatting the liberals on here.

I say fuck it, I'll take them all on at once. If tactics like this are the best they've got, I'm not too worried.

Re: I'm not going to bother mining my own posts

what do you mean you never claimed she was the best choice? You specifically said McCain should go with Palin, what's that? 2ndly; your contrast to Powell has nothing to do with your endorsement of Palin. The first paragraph does not change what you said whatsoever; that' s why I didn't include it. It's irrelevant and does nothing to change the meaning of what you said.
