I don't envy palin or her speechwriters at the moment...
by Smiley1979

She's going to have to deliver one hell of a speech next week, and she's going to have to answer a hell of a lot of questions.

What are her views on Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and the ME in general?

What does she think about the current economy; if she acknowledges the problems how does she think they should be fixed?

Does she have any ideas for creating jobs?

What is her position on energy outside of her track record for bending over backwards for big oil?

Does she have any views on the healthcare crisis?

Since she's a woman, where does she stand on equal pay? Does she follow mccain and the gop, or does she believe a woman has a right to be paid the same money for the same work?

Does she see a US role in the crisis over South Ossetia and Azkhabia? Would she prefer diplomacy or military action (same applies to the ME)?

What's her stance on education?

And the big, unifying question:

Why should her inclusion on the ticket convince a single independent, moderate, or undecided to vote mccain in November?

I don't envy the task of trying to explain all that in one speech, but she really needs to define herself on national issues very quickly if she intends to be anything but an albatross around mccain's neck.

I can't remember Obama or Biden explaining...

how they want to create more jobs. Can you point me to a quote? Same with education - how exactly do they plan to salvage this mess? We pay huge amounts of money already, but US public schools are among the worst in the world. What were Biden's and Obama's solutions? More money?
may not be accustomed to working

....with speech writers, of course the press will give her all sorts of breaks

....they're gonna have to ad lib the thing right outta their asses, TelePrompTers will be essential;)

They didn't have to at the conventions
by Smiley1979

They spoke on these issues many times during the primaries, in debates, and have information on their websites. palin hasn't been vetted on that or any other issue, which is why her speech will have to be so very different from what we usually see at conventions.

As far as Obama's plans, he wants to remove tax incentives for outsourcing, create tax incentives for creating good jobs domestically, and invest heavily in green technology, creating jobs and making the US the world leader in that very promising market.

He mentioned all of these in his speech, and has a great deal of detail on his website.

teleprompters are fine...
by Smiley1979

All pols use them.

The problem is that they first need to figure out what her positions are, and they've got alot of issues and very little time.

Does she have any opinions of her own, or will McCain's team fill her in? Honestly, in what context would Palin have formulated a single national/global policy before today?

You have opinions on these issues
by Smiley1979

So do I. Why shouldn't palin?

Of course most likely, mccain's masters will just give palin the same positions they gave mccain.

betcha Kristol had someone woodshedding
by mookex

...this thing, if he's behind the nomination we can bet he's been working

....Bill Kristol is a sneaky competent bastard, after all how can a person play a decent career in media politics from working for Dan Quayle without being a sneaky competent bastard?

Yes we all have opinions. I agree, Palin will be given a cram book to bring her up to speed on her opinions. Possibly they'll lend her McCain's.

I was serious. When has Palin ever been required to formulate a national or global policy before today? Obama has put years into his policies. It is another rather large hole in her readiness to be vice president.

I can't find a thing
by Smiley1979
As far as I know, she's never said anything of substance on most of the serious issues facing America. The one where she has a stance, energy, it's completely wrong.
Re: I can't find a thing

I couldn't find anything either.

Nevermind she that she hasn't said anything of substance, she hasn't given serious and concentrated effort to those serious issues facing America. The governing of half a million people, is not the governing of a many faceted government of the 350 million people of the United States.

If something were to happen to McCain, we are left to depend on a person who crammed for a few weeks so she could parrot McCain's policies, without putting any of her own thought and reasoning into it. How do we know she would make the right choices, left to her own council?

You "don't remember" because you choose not to.

Obama will create more jobs by spending the squandered money in Iraq, to re-build our crumbling infrastructure. Ending tax cuts for companies that get rid of jobs, and send them overseas. And also to create more green jobs by energy alternatives.

He's addressed education on numerous occasions. Especially higher education accessibility. Addressing higher tuition costs. Having those that can't afford college outright, to serve their communities or country for college tuition.

He's even gone back as far as how to get kids in Head Start, and addressing the the root problems and solutions of educating the young. He elaborated on it, just last night.

Basically, we can't be ahead in the world with kids that start out behind.

What's McCain's position on those things? Some kind of "one size fits all" tax cut and privitization? The Republican answer to everything that's been proven such a success?

Until a couple months ago...

mccain didn't even have any education policies. Seriously, he just forgot to think about that.

Some kind of "one size fits all" tax cut and privitization?

Yep, that's pretty much all he's got on most domestic issues. The same policies that have failed us time and time again.
