Palin might make a great president
by Anse

She's a conservative and I'm a liberal, so I could never vote for the woman. But I've maintained all along that a candidate does not need experience as much as he/she needs good people skills, a solid ideological foundation that guides decisions, and a good presentation to the public (after all, the President is our representative abroad).

Palin seems to nail all those qualities, and her reputation as somebody who is willing to go against her own party and clean house demands respect.

That said, how in the hell can McCain honestly attack Obama's supposed lack of experience now? It's been his most common talking point so far. He's just made weeks and weeks of his own statements seem like a lot of bull.

And can we not be honest here? If the Democratic race had turned out differently, would Palin be his choice? If Obama had picked someone flashier than Biden, would things have been different on McCain's side? I don't think there's any question about it.

But the race just got considerably more interesting. And no matter what happens in November, history will be made. That's pretty cool.

i am a moderate, sometimes conservative, sometimes liberal...i found your post refreshing in the fact that it is not filled with vitirol...she might make a great pres..so may mccain , obama, or biden...whoever finds themselves in the office, it would be so great if both parties would let the man, or woman, actually lead.

I disagree with that, though; McCain and Obama are polar opposites. This is a pretty easy choice if you have any ideals of your own. They are not interchangeable. One will govern in dramatically different fashion than the other, and as a left-leaning voter, I cannot tolerate the possibility of John McCain in office.

It's ironic that most Republicans coudn't, either, until he won the nomination.

I think Democrats need to be careful with this argument. You're conceding that experience matters, which seems to be advantage McCain. The obvious answer is that Palin is running for VP, not President. The office of VP was, up until Carter/Mondale a mostly ceremonial job. The veep went to state funerals, broke ties in the Senate, and waited around for the President to die. The Secs of State, Defense, etc were all more involved in actual governance. McCain and Palin could revert to that model. As long as John stays upright, no problem.

A better argument might be that this is a transparent, cynical hail-Mary to try and get the PUMA vote. Obama was accused of admitting his foreign policy weakness when he nominated Biden. McCain is apparently admitting that he thinks he's going to lose unless he takes desperate chances like this.

McCain wasn't pick at the beginning but he's better than Obama in many ways. 1st McCain will appoint judges to the supreme court who will do their job to hold up the constitution and to interpret laws instead of make them. 2nd he will not go for a national heath care which has failed in several other countries. 3rd he won't allow a law killing a baby that was a botched abortion where the baby is born and able to live. 4th he will not raise taxes and increase the governments size. (both sides say washington is broken, and they are right) so why make it bigger and allow them to screw more things up. I could also continue on about Obama inexperiance and affiliations with terrorists, racist and another who is going to jail for fraud but I won't. We will see in November once the people are informed McCain will be president.

they are not polar opposites... they are two men vying for the office of president...what is either going to do that is so radically different from the other? the polar opposite of any american president is an unelected tyrannt who isn't at all interested in the welfare of america

any ideals of my own? i'm not taking the bait.
