Obama's big speech, wiped off the front pages

Now, that is a good strategy. Didn't Obama masterfully control the media during the primary? McCain successfully snatched the limelight from the convention for the long weekend. That wily old military brain still has some gray cells blinking.

Whatever, Obama can pull a speech like that any day of the week.

How many times can McCain announce his VP pick?

They call it the Friday "document dump".

You ship bad news on a Friday because no one reads the Saturday paper, and it's all old news by Monday.

Then, next week.. assuming the Republicans can find enough heterosexual, unindicted members of their party to host a convention.. it will all be livened up by another hug from Mr. 23%, a snarl from Cheney, and the prospect of Katrina II.

Except . . . the Republicans have a

terrible habit of PLANNING for negatives and finding ways around them. Ahem, for instance, McCain's bold selection of a woman VP WITH meaningful executive experience to counter Obama's bland and safe selection of a McCain look alike without the fire or passion.

Oh dear!

I suspect that the 39 million people who watched Obama's speach live last night won't forget it. That is twice the size of the audience that saw Kerry or Bush in 2004.

I have already forgotten it. I'm serious. It was completely unmemorable. I know there was a lot of hype and that was difficult to live up to. He also had some real heavy weight speakers/ speechwriters that came before him during the convention. I thought the ideas did not flow well and the specifics were so lacking that things became hard to follow. And yes, I do remember that much.

Don't make the assumption that all 39 million people liked what they heard.

McCain has clearly figured out how to run a campaign. The last month has been nothing but net. If only he'd done that 8 years ago, we'd have had real Repubs running the show rather than these nitwit pretenders.

I saw the speech and agreed with almost everything he said. Words are cheap.

Like I said before, Obama has the almost supernatural ability to deliver grand slam speeches at the drop of a hat, without notes or a teleprompter.

Obama can pump out a Gettysburg Address every day from now until November. He can write a stellar 45 minute oration on the spot while someone else is at the podium delivering a 10 minute introduction.

Do you understand how much more talent Obama has than any other person who ever opened his mouth to speak since the dawn of time? Compared to Obama, the rest of us might as well still be cavemen struggling to master the art of language, grunting at each other emphatically.

McCain is a tired old man with no trump cards left in his hand. All is lost for John McCain, America's next presidential runner-up.

"McCain has clearly figured out how to run a campaign. The last month has been nothing but net."

I'm interested to hear if you have changed your mind on this issue given how badly the McCain campaign seems to have fumbled the vetting of Palin?

Jury is out on that. Given the criticism that she's received lately, the door has been opened for her to assume the feminist mantle. "How dare the NYT question my decisions! Did they question Biden's?"

We'll see in her speech tonight. I'm hoping there are some major fireworks.

""How dare the NYT question my decisions! Did they question Biden's?"

Biden didn't make such decisions. He did not join a political party that promoted succession. He did not eliminated sex ed from schools only to find his daughter got pregnant. He did not try to push creationism in schools at the cost of science. He did not use his influence to try to fire his ex brother in law. He did not claim to have voted against the bridge to nowhere only to have it revealed that he had supported it. Those are Palin's decisions and she should answer for them.
