I'm so happy for them, Now the Repubs have their very own fuck toy!

They'll be making the announcement shortly, they're still trying to round up the obligatory 10,000 enthusiastic supporters to fill the bleachers.
Huh.

Am I supposed to vote for her because she's got a vagina? Even though she's against all the things I'm for, and for all the things I'm against?

Although, I am in favor of vaginas, so there's that.

You now know the fear I felt that Obama would pick Hillary Clinton as his running mate. He had the presidency in his hand and tossed it away.

It's not about filling stadiums, Ellen. It's about who will be elected in November.

Sarah Palin will be the next Vice-President of the United States. I could not be happier about that.

I always liked her dad, Michael

Now she and John can put on an "I'm not dead yet" skit at the RNC.
Drill, Drill, Drill

So to speak.

Not just a woman play, but an energy play. She's the chair of some US-Canadian oil and gas commission or other. She should shine on the issue we really need to hammer home this year.

I lover her kids' names. Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Quite the western outdoorsperson.

Oh, and Track's in the army, so that should play well.

No, no, McCain's not dead!

He's restin'!
What this choice does:
by FieldingBandolier

1) her relatively unknown status diverts the positive press from the DNC as media scrambles to write "Who is Sarah Palin?" stories. And what they write will have great appeal.

2) The country is full of Republicans who, in light of the current political disaster, are looking to save face. A vote for Obama forces them to admit they were wrong. A vote for McCain/Palin provides an opportunity to be less wrong.

3) By choosing a candidate with such strong ethical credentials, it grants McCain integrity points.

4) A woman provides "I'm not a racist or misogynist - I love that she's a woman" points.

5) She appeals to womaen (over half the voting population) who like to identify themselves as Christian feminists.

Do I need to go on?

It's ironic - the best counter to Sarah Palin is Hillary Clinton. But she's not on the fucking ticket.

Many liberals on this board are going to be slow to realize the level of "sparkle" she provides to a ticket that desperately needed some. But they underestimate this pick - she has substance; over time, they'll figure it out. She is the perfect choice. If only Obama had made the perfect choice to preempt it...

Finally, a Vice-President I can dream about.

Jack

I'm pretty sure...
by FieldingBandolier
McCain isn't going to dismiss her accomplishments as a way of highlighting her attractiveness and pliability, so your point is off.
Question for you
by skitch
Hi Ellen.

I'm trying to understand why our discussion the other day got so confrontational so fast. I wasn't trying to trick you or trap you, I was just wondering what your opinion was.

Reading the thread again I noticed that you responded to one of my very sarcastic responses to another poster. Did you think I was responding to you that time?
