It's The Economy Stup...I mean Dehlia
by lawpol

Dehlia wonders whether her obsession with Guantanamo and Abu Graib spring from the fact that she apparently lives in an academic fish bowl. Uh...yea.

The Republican attack machine, say what you will about it, stays on message. Democrats are soft on national security and Obama is the softest of all. That strategy doomed Democratic candidates from Kerry to Max Cleland. It doesn't have to be right, doesn't have to be principled, just has to be said over and over.

The successful Democratic response has never been to make that issue the battleground (see, Kerry, John, 2004 RIP). It's always been to ignore it and talk about what Americans really care about, bucks in the jeans, the economy (See, Clinton, WJ 1992,1996; Clinton, H, 2000,2006).

Basically, people care as much deep down about Guantanamo as they do about force feeding of fowl. Bad, should change, maybe will someday, wake me when it does.

And the folks at Guantanamo are not all Osama's drivers. The mastermind of 9-11 is there and when his trial gets rolling there won't be a damp eye in the house. And where exactly should we put those types when G goes down? Supermax in Florence Colorado? There's not an inmate there who wouldn't beg to go to G.

Everybody signed on to the last wiretap bill, Dems included. Why? It's a distraction from Moneyball, the only game in town. Just win, Barry, and we don't care how. Then in '09, we can chat about the small shit.
