But Ageism OK
by ghost

Thank you, Weisburg, for pointing out that McCain is an old fart who can't understand all this new-fangled techology and the gizmos, doodads and thingamabobs that accompany it. He is just a crusty old dinosaur, eh?

Old white people are breaking for McCain? But wait! McCain's an old white guy! Young black people, by contrast, are split down the middle, obviously concentrating on the candidates' policy differences.

The explanation for Obama's lead disappearing is that people suddenly realize he's black? Or could it be people are begining to actually look beyond his shiny, polished exterior (which, I'm assured, is a euphamism for "black")? If people were really racist, it would be working in the opposite direction. Racists (and "latent" racists) would have been dismissing him early on because they only knew him as the "black" candidate, but their resistence would, to some degree, erode as they learned what he stood for and came to find out that he was the (ostensibly) superior candidate.

I think Weisburg just can't wrap his mind around the fact that the majority of the people of the USA just aren't the angry leftists that he and Obama's South Side associates are.

If Obama's "inexperience" and "age" are acceptable criticisms so is McCain's age.

Do you really think that his gaffe's/confusion, and complete ignorance on technology wouldn't affect the presidency? As opposed to the color of someone's skin? Are you really equating the two?

I think you are just reading into this whatever you want. When even 5% of people in polls outright say they will not vote for a black man, that doesn't mean they think he's "polished" or whatever reason you don't like him. It means he's a black man.

Vote Technocrat

Damien-

An overreliance on technology could also affect the presidency.

Experience and longevity are legitimate issues, but trotting out age stereotypes is as invidious as trotting out racial stereotypes.

And did you even get past the first paragraph of my post?

Re: Vote Technocrat

Please find any reason or way that Barack Obama has seemed too relient on technology?

Wouldn't you also say that right now more and more policies are being instituted and based around technology and important new legislation about technology, that ignorance on that issue would affect the policies that McCain supports, oversees, implements, etc? It's possible it would't. He could hire someone to do it for him, but if that's so, so could Obama for the issues you brought up.

I'm not saying that experience and longevity are not legitimate issues. But when you have someone clearly messing up a lot of the time, are you just supposed to give him the red button without even thinking about it? That would be foolish. I'm just saying it's a legitimate concern. If you're worried about the brashness of an "inexperienced" candidate, I be concerned with the mind, based on observations, of an "older" candidate.

And I've said this before, when you have been having for the past 8 years 1% difference in election results, if you don't think that 5% ADMITTED (which means it would probably be higher) voters who said they would not vote for a black man wouldn't make a difference, you'd be wrong.

I will also though agree with you that there may be a couple of other percents that may affect the results, but I think this one is the most unwavering one that cannot be swayed by policy or campaign.
