no we are not a better country than this

the libs tactic is to teach everyone to feel the same that leftwingers do, that the US is bad, bad, bad, that our country and culture and religion are bogus, that anyone who looks at another person with a bigger house and does not want to go burn it down is a moron. When we learn the lesson, we will not become more liberal. We will become more angry, more resentful and more criminal, and less tolerant. We may become socialist the way libs want, but remember libs, the nazis were socialists.

Can you document exactly where Barak Obama said that in his speech?

Or are you lying about what he said?

Not lying

Such a ridiculous caricature could only come from a dittohead or the like that has never once analyzed the policies of Democrats.

Then again, the person could be reaching out to the dittohead mindset and actually be a liar, like you surmise. I doubt it, though.

We're better than you, I hope

Liberals are realists....Conservatives live in some distorted, rosy-tinted history-that-never-was. Neither "hate America" or want everyone to "feel bad about our country."

Your post is emblematic of the very hatred, resentment, and anger you claim to oppose.

Good grief, you have a big imagination! Too bad none of your thoughts have any basis in reality!

Let's look clsoely at what fenella is saying:

He or she says: no, we are not a better country than this.

Is that really how we want to move forward?

We really want to tell our children that we can't do any better than we are doing now?

Really?

How small. How ignorant. How pathetic.

Of Course We Can Do Better!

Of course we should want to strive to excel and do a better job than our fore fathers.

Isn't that the hope of every American? That we'll do better than the generation before and that our children will do better than we did?

I know that's the case in my family.

As a liberal, i don't need for everyone to think like me, but I would like to see our country thrive and for more people to do well.

Fenella is celebrating mediocrity, while the rest of us are looking to the future.

I agree.

I am in the performing arts. We spend a LOT of time looking for things that are wrong and can be improved. To an outsider, we would seem like a very negative lot. On stage, we present an almost flawless production, made possible only because we relentlessly pursued it. We always challenge ourselves to find better ways of doing things. We often question the very approach we use.

I am tired of the opinion that Americans are superior to the world and the only ones who have anything to offer. I'm tired of the mantra that we are perfect in everything we do and have an inalienable right to as much stuff as we can borrow money for. There is a lot about this country, and about us, that doesn't just need improving, but is embarrassingly misguided. We are a collection of tremendous extremes and our capacity for damage and folly is as open as our ability to imagine and do quite remarkable things.

I want a president who understands some of this. In a world of finite resources the world needs to see us begin to behave differently. In a world of volatile emotions and beliefs and filled with terrible weapons, the world needs to see us behave differently.

We need to rehearse more!

I don't really know if Obama will move in any of these directions, but he is the only one out there who evens talks as if it's possible. The last 8 years under Bush have been a national nightmare, and, for me, only a visionery, smart, articulate, and different sort of politician will do to counter that. I'll take the chance with him. He has my vote.

Oh, but fascism and socialism are the same thing. Didn't you know? ;-)

Wow, that must have come as quite a surprise to their fellow German socialists! Maybe Hitler launched his campaigns of intimidation and extermination against them becasue they weren't socialist enough!

Ah, ignorance really is bliss!!

Unfortunately, this is the latest trend of sycophantic doublethink coming from the Right Wing. It's their attempts to conflate Nazi ideology with American Liberal and Progressive politics. It must require an immense amount of willpower to believe this malarkey.

I first heard similar suggestions over on YouTube where some referenced Jonah Goldberg's book "Liberal Fascism."

The dittoheads love it!

"Of course the Nazi's were Liberals, because they were National Socialists, you see? It's so simple!"

Of course, that's why Liberals want to give women the right to choose, end illegal wiretapping and surveillance, give people the right to marry whom they choose... no no, that's oppression!

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY is now the Right Wing mantra apparently.

Let us remember this come November 4th.
