Good question. That of course, depends on whether the people of North Ossetia want it.

It speaks volumes that North Ossetia does not seem to want independence. It seems happy to live under Russian control and it seems South Ossetia want it too. Apparently living under Georgian control is much worse, something highlighted by the fact that the Georgian army, unprovoked, came in and flattened their capital city and killed a ton of their unarmed civilians with recently purchased US weaponry. And the Russians are the baddies here for hittting back?

You might find that Dr Evil lives in Georgia and not in Russia...
