I'm not sure it's racism

It may be that the notion of being taxed to death could scare the "older white base" i.e. the wiser and wealthier.

Also, since 98% of black voters are voting for Obama because he is black, the only 26% of white voters are voting against him for the same reason, does that mean blacks are 3 times more racist?

Just a thought.....

You're missing Weisberg's point. The point isn't that Obama is necessarily right on all issues, or that the liberal prescription for our problems is better than the conservative prescription.

We can go on forever about how big government should be, how militaristic the US should be, etc., etc. But the fact is that elections are not decided by people with deeply-held beliefs about the answers to these questions--they are decided by "swing voters" who vote with their gut. Given the state of the country right now, the "gut" vote should be overwhelming favoring the party out of power. That's not happening.

Or, in other words: why are millions of whites who voted for Clinton (both of them) not willing to vote for Obama--when Clinton and Obama are nearly identical on the issues.
