Question for the BOTF:
by SpeakerNancy

Just how much beach volleyball is too much beach volleyball?
Too much? Only if USA loses
by PumpkinSeed
Remember its NBC, this is a winning mini-series for the otherwise 4th place network.

Oh I know! I like watching some of it but it gets a bit much, after awhile. How much longer does it go on?

I miss some of The Morning Shows I usually watch that get pre-empted by all this.

Do you think they think the skimpy swim-suits & bikinis will do it for them, in the ratings? And come ON, "Brazil vs. Brazil," what's that about?? Does each national team seriously have to play itself, in order to qualify for the finals? Good grief, if so.

p.s.I thought CBS-TV was ranked third of the three "regular" networks?? (Is FOX 4th?) I will admit, we have watched most of the Olympics and are especially fond of the swimmers & the scullers.

Believe the O's end sometime this weekend and we have watched them with great interest. And learned a lot about current China & its popular culture, as well. Our favorite sports have been the swimming and the sculling, so far. Too much gymnastics and too much (FAR too much...) beach volleyball, however. The water cube (swimming pavilion) is a very daring and apparently quite successful piece of architecture. We have photos of the "BIrdsNest" under const. from two years ago when our family members were living there -- interesting to see it, completed & in use.

Precisely. The point is made.

And I hope we will NOT see a repeat of this sexist Barbie-Doll
Playmate of the Month attitude & uniform trend in the next Summer Olympics. Thank goodness, most of the women's volleyball players do seem to be somewhat flat-chested! Thus, the viewers (even the lascivious men among them) might try to keep their eyes on the GAME a bit more. I have found myself wondering if the women players on the BikiniTeams had the opportunity to protest or to choose a less Playgirl-looking sports uniform. Loved it when the US women scullers won the other day, which they somehow managed while "fully" athletically clothed. Thanks for the link -- that's SOME Blog. I've bookmarked it.

Dawn? Why single out volleyball?

thanks..I wondered how much longer it went on. I know you have been enjoying it though.
I don't know about you

but this is true for me:

I recall a study that showed how women’s ability to think clearly and to focus their minds drops dramatically when they’re wearing revealing clothes. The more revealing the clothes, the dumber they get. Test scores plummet, ability to answer questions nose-dives. That’s because they’re so goddamn anxious about how they look and whether their bits are hanging out.

I can attest to that myself; whenever I wore short-shorts or some other such foolishness as a young Sock, I was so flustered I could hardly concentrate. All I could think about was how much of me was showing.

When I'm dressed for optimum display, I get so self-conscious, I can't think about anything besides how I look (and to some extent, I'm always thinking about how I look, regardless). I suppose that wouldn't be true if I lived in a bikini while I practiced my sport, but still, it's a good point.

I've really enjoyed watching women's basketball and women's baseball. I wish women's leagues got more mainstream exposure. And 'exposure' is the real issue, isn't it? That's how they end up in those skimpy outfits.

Violet's awesome.

Yes, we have been enjoying it greatly. But of course, our family has the extra added interest of the personal China / BEIJing connection. Do check out the link in Dawn's post below, very interesting! Haven't opened up NightSwimmer's links yet but will.
Actually May & Walsh had even more

revealing bottom portions of their bikinis at the Athens Olympics, about half way between a thong and the suits they have now. These outfits are disappointing in comparion. :)

"Thank goodness, most of the women's volleyball players do seem to be somewhat flat-chested!"

Did you file the boobs off your Barbie Dolls as a kid? lol

I'd like to get in a sleeping bag with the American team and see if they could give me another heart attack.

I would think "playmate of the month" measurements would be a serious impediment to success in beach volleyball -- not to mention the fact that the athletes have about 1% body fat.

For the record, I note that many of the sprinters wear uniforms only slightly less revealing.

Personally, what I find offensive is the camel toes on display amongst prepubescent female gymnasts -- always feel like I am guilty of watching kiddie porn if I watch those competitions. OK, I don't really care much for watching gymnastics anyway, but.....

and I was feeling sorry for the guys

having to wear all that baggy crap that just gets in your way.
