I hope he(Obama) learned

that there are 50 states! Twenty-five years ago, he would've been doomed as a candidate, but today half of the dumb-assed electorate doesn't know either, so nobody notices.

By the same token, McCain's continued recognition of Czechoslovakia should be a deal-breaker. Not to mention his "Top Ten Funniest Ways to Kill Iranians". I don't know, something about the near certainty of a war with Iran is reason enough for me not to vote for him.
How many states do you need

when the current president informs us that we are "a nation of 300 people"?

Iran, Russia....never fear, McCain WILL find a war to fight. After all, he is still fuming over our failure in Vietnam, still furious about being a POW...he wants blood! Screw the economy, health care, civil liberties, lets go find a war!!!!
Oh wait! little george made a mistake

Re: I hope he(Obama) learned
by b0nnylass

mr liberal, that is such a lame argument against Obama that I can't believe you even bothered to write it. The 57 states thing was a slip of the tongue, not a lack of knowledge about our country, and you know it. I'd venture Obama is a hell of a lot smarter than you or me (or McCain) so what is your point? McCain's slip ups on Czechoslovakia (which he repeated three times) and the geography of the Middle East are more worrying, because they may actually reflect what he thinks.

Yes, the electorate is full of dumb-asses, but I promise you the votes of the morons will be equally split between both candidates. To suggest that all the dumbest Americans would all be drawn to the more thoughtful, long-winded candidate and not Mr Glib One Liners McCain is ridiculous and illogical.

Re: I hope he(Obama) learned
by quillsinister

Oh, but come on! A mere two-front war on borrowed money isn't nearly enough. We need a third and fourth front! McCain knows how to win wars. He said so, and we don't need to ask exactly where he acquired this knowledge, nor why he hasn't shared it with Bush during the five years of OIF. He knows, ok? And it'll be a romantic adventure, just like the President says!

Why do you hate freedom? ;-)

Re: I hope he(Obama) learned

More wars? More debt? Sign me up!

Sadly, some people do seem to think this is a great idea. I wonder how long they'll stay in denial about the permanent decline of our country.

entj4sure think you need to take a deep breath.

Lot of work to show that Bush sounds idiotic. Should have gone out and pulled weeds from your garden. That ship has sailed a long time ago.

Now suggesting that McCain will find a war to fight is well.... idiotic. I know many vets from Vietnam and none of them have a thirst for blood and a desire to see our kids go out to fight a senseless war. You seem to imply that Vietnam vets are looking for some payback is pretty offensive. I think that if you know some war vets and suggest to them that they probably would love to see us go to war with someone else you might get a chance to see some of their furry. Wake up, the truth is they saw things that take all the glamor out of war. I think had W actually experienced what McCain did we might not be in Iraq now. I think Saddam probably would have forced the issue but there was no need for the urgency at that time.

I think that if this country goes to war with Iran it will not matter who the president is.

I do not know what we should do but I guess your view is that what Russia did in Georgia should be ignored. The rocket that Iran launched into space should be of no concern. Iran stating that Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth should be ignored. That they are closing in on being able to build a nuclear weapon should also be ignored.

What happens when Russia goes into the Ukraine. None of our business?

Try some rational thought once in a while.

"More wars? More debt?...Sadly, some people do seem to think this is a great idea."

Nonsense. There's a difference between thinking it may be necessary, and thinking it's "a great idea." Imputing the latter to people whose politics you don't care for is childish.

"I wonder how long they'll stay in denial about the permanent decline of our country."

For as long as it will be human nature to accept that such things are inevitable, and common to blame "the other guys" for it.

History doesn't happen on Internet time.

Re: I hope he(Obama) learned

"I think that if you know some war vets and suggest to them that they probably would love to see us go to war with someone else you might get a chance to see some of their furry."

That's... disturbing. :-| Also, you and I know different vets.

"I do not know what we should do but I guess your view is that what Russia did in Georgia should be ignored. The rocket that Iran launched into space should be of no concern. Iran stating that Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth should be ignored. That they are closing in on being able to build a nuclear weapon should also be ignored."

As for Russia and Georgia, I'd say that's none of our business. Iran's recent missile tests are not nearly as threatening to us as U.S. warships passing through Iranian territorial waters on an almost daily basis are to them. From a linguist friend of mine, the bit about wiping Israel off the map was horribly mistranslated. As for their impending nuclear ability, there are far better ways to deal with that than a war, especially considering how much oil has to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

And in the end, we've used up our military capability invading Iraq. Until that changes, our options are few whether you like it or not. The other thing that most people refuse to recognize is that our own saber rattling is driving most of the unpleasantness between the U.S. and Iran. But even if that weren't so, there would be absolutely nothing funny about having to fight Iran in the Straits of Hormuz, and it was beneath McCain to joke about it.

Re: I hope he(Obama) learned
by b0nnylass

Actually wolf, I know many people who don't seem to grasp the gravity of war, and certainly don't speak about it as a last resort. One conservative friend describes the Iraq War as 'no big deal' because there have been fewer casualties than WWII. The Vietnam veteran in my family thinks we should bomb anyone we don't like. I guess 'necessity' is a somewhat subjective concept when it comes to war, but surely you're not trying to tell me that every pro-war person in the country thinks war is only ok as a last resort. There is no way you believe that. To ignore those who are mindlessly pro-war out of some kind of bloodthirsty patriotism or ignorance about the rest of the world, just because it helps your argument, is also childish. I think some people simply see war as the natural state of the world. I don't happen to be one of them.

McCain understands war, to be sure. But to classlessly joke about war with Iran on a regular basis leads me to believe he doesn't consider that idea to be a last resort at all. Not to mention, I don't think he grasps the idea that our economy cannot afford yet another war. And I find that extremely alarming.
