SD abortion law
by flawedexistence

Once again, women are being underestimated. Having known other women who have had abortions, I've never known one who was a dewy-eyed innocent when it came to the decision to terminite a pregnancy. The women I've known were fully aware, on every possible level, that having an abortion was going to be painful decision which would remain with us throughout our lives. (Obviously including myself, here.) Women are not stupid. Regardless of one's religious or philosophical beliefs, the power to bring life onto this planet is not something one takes lightly. Both sides on this issue seem to believe that we are too ignorant to understand abortion and will change our minds when told that we might be aborting a "human being". (No, really? Is that what those pink, screaming things are?) If a woman is given the mandatory South Dakota spiel and changes her mind about having an abortion based on the information contained therein, then perhaps she hasn't given her actions the reflection they deserve. Abortion can be difficult to live with. EVEN when a woman knows it is the absolutely correct decision to make, it ain't easy. One side calls us baby-killing sluts, the other thinks we're too stupid to know our own minds...

I think abortion should be banned, however I do agree with you that this peice of paper is pointless, they either feel some connection to their unborn baby or not, all this speech would do is create guilt, and the decision has already been made, so its not as if anything good is coming from it. As long as its legal to get an abortion we shouldn't treat those that do as if they are criminals.

I don't think it's the content of the script that would discourage a woman who'd already made that difficult choice so much as the implied judgment of society. The woman knows that the fetus could grow into a baby, and that's what she doesn't want. The script is her fellow Dakotan's way of following her into the doctors office and giving her a lecture in order to shame her away from the procedure despite her logical judgement. It's preachy, invasive, and wrong.

Not to put down your view on abortion being banned. But I just want to say that without abortion the world would become overpopulated even faster than it already is becoming. Then think of all the abandoned, unloved, regretted children there would be born into this world. All the babies put up for adoption. Already there are numerous children who need love, care, and attention in adoption agencies, we should adopt them, and care for them, the keep adding to it.
Also, I know that my mother has had two abortions. If she didn't have those abortions, then I wouldn't be here today, loved and cherished as I am now. If she wasn't allowed to get those, her life would probably be worse off, she wouldn't be happily married for 18 years to my father, and I wouldn't be here. Yes it's a scary thought that I could've been one of those aborted fetuses, but at least I know that I'm here, loved, cherished, and my mother was fully prepared to have me.
Plus what about having abortion banned when women could've been raped?
Or could be prone to dying from child birth? Is it still not okay?
Whether it's a religious view or not, it should fully be the womens decision. I mean for one thing, how can humans preach that abortion is wrong, unlawful, and a disgrace, when they're perfectly okay with taking baby animals from their mother's and injecting AIDS, HIV, and flu viruses into them inorder to benefit society. That's wrong too, why not ba that?
