If you believe life and human rights begin at conception
by mark14
will you offer up the wombs of yourself or your women to carry the hundreds of thousands of fertility clinic created fertilized embryos that are destined to be destroyed instead of children of your own? Will you sign a pledge to adopt and raise all the babies born to women who intended to abort them no matter their race or disability? Where do your expressed beliefs meet your reality?

How about sell babies? Heck I'm proposing giving right to lifers "free" ones.

These are interesting distractions but do you intend to answer MY question?

Also, if abortion is murder, is it enough to repeal Roe v Wade? Or should anyone who gets an abortion or performs one be convicted of murder?

And since such a murder would be considered both premeditated and conspiratorial, shouldn't everyone convicted face the death penalty in states where that sort of thing is the law?

Does that also mean that in order to enforce such a law, shouldn't every woman in the US be given monthly exams to confirm they are not pregnant and all pregnant women should be monitored until the go full term?

How about trials for women that have miscarriages where the medical examiner testifies to their guilt or innocence?

I think if we mix religion with government, we can go Taliban pretty quickly......

It's a power thing.

If I can make abortion illegal, I hold the power. I can force you to bear the child. BUT..if we take your angle mark, I will have relinquished all the power to you. You can have babies at will, and force ME to take them in. Hey...this "right to life" shit is all good and fun...but let's not be talking crazy here! Yeah....like I'M going to let some low-life baby-maker be the boss of me!

And if we force women who get pregnant to carry the baby full-term couldn't we also force the man who got her pregnant to marry her and raise the child together? If the man does not want to marry her he should be thrown in prison for 18 yrs and the state, who got involved in the decision in the first place, must pay to raise the child.

Nobody is getting crazy here....

If you listen carefully to what the nondenominationals are saying here, it is not really about making abortions illegal, just unseen.

These people think that we live in a christian nation and that it is a disgrace that this same christian nation has a law on the books that says it is not the business of the government to be involved in the decision to carry a pregnancy to term.

The people that believe this way do not want to make abortion illegal - they know better than that because they know that the majority of people in the US are opposed to enacting draconian laws against women and doctors in this matter. They want abortion to go away.

I would maintain that if you believe it is wrong - criminally wrong - then there should be no mincing of words.

The futility of the abortion argument lies in the misdirected attention on fetuses. From my understanding, there are two main causes of abortions: 1) women, married or single but in a long term relationship, already with children, usually considering financial circumstances, unwilling to take a pregnancy to full term; and 2) single women, without children, engaging in sex outside of marriage, unwilling to take a pregnancy to full term.

So financial disincentives and sex outside of marriage are the two main factors leading to abortion.

Sex outside of marriage is directly a result of its decriminalization which serves to weaken the family institution.

And the financial disincentive is a government and cultural perogative.

Unwanted sex = unwanted pregnancy
by Trebuchet

You way oversimplified the model. Non-consensual sex comes in a lot more forms than just rape and occurs in all strata of society.

And that remark about decriminalization of extra marital sex? Are you implying that there should be a law against sex?

Have you thought that one through?
