Obama tells McCain to lay off character

updated 1 hour, 2 minutes ago

ORLANDO - Democrat Barack Obama challenged his Republican opponent John McCain on Tuesday to stop questioning his "character and patriotism."

Addressing the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention, Obama reaffirmed his early opposition to the U.S. invasion of Iraq and said the so-called "surge" strategy of sending 30,000 additional troops to Iraq last year had not produced the political reconciliation necessary to achieve lasting peace in the country. McCain supported the Iraq invasion and was an early champion of the surge.

"These are the judgments I've made and the policies that we have to debate, because we do have differences in this election," Obama said. "One of the things that we have to change in this country is the idea that people can't disagree without challenging each other's character and patriotism. I have never suggested that Sen. McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition. I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America's national interest. Now, it's time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same.

Apparently Obama has it right...

Can't you even agree on this?

So Obama accusses McCain of "picking his positions on national security based on personal ambition and "politics" and this is not an attack on McCain's character?

Does Obama suggest that his poilicy of defeat in Iraq is more patiotic and somehow shows more character?

I have never suggested that Sen. McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition. I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America's national interest.

Can you even read? Obama is saying "I have never suggested... "

Jeeeze...

he just did.
McCain has less character than Bush...
by Nestor

At least, Bush could always say he was drunk at the time.

McCain has no such excuse.

Hahahaha!
by mom

Sure he does....

Their standard response:

“The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous,” Ms. Wallace said.

Ah, I forgot... the "I was a POW" defense.

Really, does being a POW immunize you from every tattered trait of humanity?

Or does it make you more likely to do anything to overcome opposition?

The one thing you can count on without fail is that it will be a resident of lower wingnuttistan who will first inject the "hate" thing into any discussion.Having determined their own definition which is expanded to include any dissent from or disagreement with the wingnut party line however mild they can throw this debate stopper out there any time they're falling behind on points and need to create a little space to bone up on the latest blathering points from the official party line. I'd suggest we ask Carol McCain, or his canoe U classmate and fellow POW Phillip Butler about john Sidney's character or some of the people who got snookered badly in the savings and loan debacle that mcinane was front man and chief apologist for.
