Confucian Capitalism Will Prove Superior In The 21st Century

The economic growth experienced by East Asia in the last fifty years is the most significant shift in world economic power to have taken place in the last five hundred years, i.e., since the European Age of Discovery vaulted the formerly peripheral region of Western Europe into world dominance. Most of these East Asian societies were profoundly influenced, at one time or another, by Confucianism. [Those nations that were not, such as the Philippines, seem to be economic laggards.]
My own personal belief is that Confucian capitalism will prove to be far superior to Anglo-American or Continental European style capitalism in the 21st century. Unlike most Western belief systems, Confucianism attaches a high degree of importance and respect to study, learning, and scholarship. Americans may still have their work ethic, but the Confucians combine that with a study ethic that is sadly lacking in modern America.
In America, football is more 'important' than algebra.
That is going to cost us.
