This is a pretty old article, if the date I saw is correct. A few of the author's suggestions have been put into practice, and the detection rates have been improved. It's still not great, and TSA screws up plenty of things, but it is better than it was. Like I have said for a long time, if people want more convenience, it will either cost you more money, or you have to accept a certain level of risk.
